According to Kyodo News, the test launch likely took place from the Wonsan area in eastern North Korea, and the launch may have failed. However, the type of missile launched by North Korea has not yet been identified.
However, Japanese Chief Cabinet Secretary Yoshihide Suga said that the Tokyo government has not confirmed reports that Pyongyang launched missiles toward Japanese waters. Meanwhile, the South Korean Ministry of Defense said it is trying to verify information about this latest launch.
This move comes just weeks after North Korea launched four ballistic missiles earlier this month toward the sea northwest of Japan, an action that raised concerns in South Korea and Japan.
