Ministry of Finance: 183 cars over 20 years old should be liquidated for only 30 million VND
The large number of vehicles used from 1996 and earlier is one of the reasons why the liquidation price of public cars has been low recently.
The Ministry of Finance has just provided further information explaining the liquidation of public cars in recent times. Previously, the data compiled by this agency from ministries, branches and localities showed thathas liquidated 761 public cars in the past year, earning 35.15 billion VND, or an average of 46.12 million VND per car.
However, according to further explanation from the Ministry of Finance, of the 761 vehicles mentioned above, 90 vehicles were reported to have been liquidated but there is no information about the amount of money collected. In addition, 9 vehicles were liquidated by demolition, 8 vehicles were converted to make educational models, auto repair, vocational training equipment... so no money was collected.
In addition, 183 vehicles are considered too old and outdated (vehicles used before 1996, Lada, Uaz, Gaz...) so when liquidated, the total amount collected is only approximately 5.5 billion VND, or an average of about 30 million VND per vehicle.
"Therefore, if we divide the average number of liquidated vehicles, the amount of money collected to get the result of more than 46 million VND per vehicle is only initial information, not fully reflecting the liquidation of assets such as public cars," the Ministry of Finance explained.

This agency also said that according to Decree No. 52/2009, leaders of ministries, branches and localities decide or delegate the decision to liquidate assets within their management scope, thensynthesize and report to the Ministry of Finance. "Therefore, the Ministry of Finance is only responsible for synthesizing data from reports of ministries, branches and localities," the agency affirmed and said it is still receiving reports from all parties to synthesize and report to the Prime Minister.
According to Mr. Tran Duc Thang - Director of the Department of Public Asset Management, Ministry of Finance, from the end of 2015 until now, the management agency has liquidated 1,105 cars. However, currently there are only statistics on the amount of money collected from the above 761 cars.
As of December 31, 2016, the total number of public vehicles nationwide was 34,241, including 3 groups: 864 official vehicles, 17,047 general-purpose vehicles and 16,330 specialized vehicles. Mr. Thang said that there are still 2,000 surplus public vehicles that need to be liquidated.
