Tens of thousands of people joined protests in London against Britain leaving the European Union. |
Tens of thousands of European Union (EU) supporters took to the streets on March 25 to begin a "Unite for Europe" protest in London to protest Britain's decision to leave the EU. The protest started from Park Lane to outside the Houses of Parliament in Westminster, where wreaths were laid in memory of the victims of the March 22 terrorist attack, according to Reuters.
The protest comes as Britain prepares to trigger Article 50 of the Lisbon Treaty, starting the process of leaving the EU on March 29. Britain and the EU have two years to negotiate the terms of the withdrawal, meaning Britain will leave the EU in 2019.
Britain held a referendum on leaving the EU (Brexit) in June 2016 with 52% of voters in favor, becoming the first member of the 28-nation union to do so.
