Official dispatch No. 3048/UBND-NC dated May 5, 2017 signed by Chairman of Nghe An Provincial People's Committee Nguyen Xuan Duong sent to Priest Nguyen Thai Hop, Bishop of Vinh Diocese; Priest Nguyen Van Vinh - representative of Nghe An Bishop and Priest Nguyen Van Dinh - Administrator of Thuan Nghia, Vinh Diocese regarding the exchange of some illegal activities of Priest Dang Huu Nam, Parish Priest of Phu Yen, An Hoa Commune, Quynh Luu District.
The content of the document affirms:
"On the occasion of the anniversary of the Liberation of the South and National Reunification Day (April 30), International Labor Day (May 1) and important political events in the province, the People's Committee of Nghe An province issued Official Dispatch No. 2829/UBND-NC dated April 26, 2017 on the exchange of a number of contents related to the work of ensuring security and order in the province. Up to now, the security and order situation in Nghe An during the holiday has been basically stable, without any major complicated activities. These results were achieved thanks to the contributions and coordination of all classes of people, including the contributions of dignitaries and parishioners in the area. On behalf of the Provincial People's Committee, I would like to express my sincere thanks to the Bishop of Vinh Diocese, the Priest representing the Bishop of Nghe An region, the Priest in charge of Thuan Nghia and the dignitaries and parishioners".
However: "Through the reflection of departments, branches and the masses, the People's Committee of Nghe An province learned that: On April 29 and April 30, 2017, at Phu Yen parish church, Priest Dang Huu Nam (Phu Yen parish priest, An Hoa commune, Quynh Luu district) preached content that distorted historical significance, denied the role and achievements of the war to liberate the South and unify the country, especially the event of April 30, 1975 and slandered the Government, ministries, branches and related localities for deliberately covering up for Formosa...; organized parishioners to march, affecting the security and order situation, affecting the lives and production of the people".
"Considering that the content of the preaching of Priest Dang Huu Nam at Phu Yen parish church on the evening of April 29 and the afternoon of April 30, 2017 contained anti-Party and anti-State content, violating Clause 2, Article 8 of the 2004 Ordinance on Belief and Religion, causing discontent and anger among the majority of people in the province, especially veterans, youth volunteers, war invalids, relatives of martyrs, people with revolutionary contributions and people infected with Agent Orange...; going against the Vietnamese people's morality of "remembering the source of water when drinking" and causing complications in security and order during the holidays of April 30 and May 1, 2017".
Previously, Priest Dang Huu Nam had repeatedly preached with incorrect content, slandering the Party, the State and the Provincial People's Committee issued Official Dispatch No. 7553/UBND-NC dated October 7, 2016, announcing Priest Dang Huu Nam's recent wrongdoings and requesting the Bishop's Office to rectify and not arrange for Priest Dang Huu Nam to continue his pastoral activities in Nghe An province, but up to now, Priest Dang Huu Nam has not changed his attitude, continuing to preach against the Party more openly and blatantly.
Therefore, the People's Committee of Nghe An province continues to discuss and request the Bishop of Vinh Diocese to handle the violations of priest Dang Huu Nam; not to arrange for priest Nam to continue his pastoral activities. At the same time, request priests in the province to comply with the provisions of the law, not to preach with false content, distorting against the State and going against the interests and aspirations of the people, causing complications in security and order."
In recent days, public opinion at home and abroad, especially the people of Nghe An, have been extremely indignant at the violations of the law, the preaching of distorted history about the liberation day of the South on April 30, 1975; defamation and insult of the sacrifices of millions of Vietnamese people. Associations such as Veterans, Women, Youth Union... have continuously organized rallies, conferences, and issued resolutions strongly opposing extremist priest Dang Huu Nam. |
