Vietnamese female long jumper wins Asian gold medal
Bui Thi Thu Thao won the gold medal in the long jump event of the first leg of the Asian Grand Prix in China with a score of 6m58.

On April 24, Bui Thi Thu Thao competed in the long jump final of the first leg of the 2017 Asian Grand Prix. The Vietnamese athlete achieved a jump of 6.58m and won the gold medal. The runner-up was Kai Konomi of Japan, 12cm behind.
“I am happy to win the gold medal, but this is still not my best personal achievement. At the 2015 SEA Games, I jumped 6m71,” Thu Thao told VnExpress.
Bui Thi Thu Thao is Vietnam's number one female long jumper. She is on the list of athletes receiving key investment in preparation for the 2017 SEA Games and 2018 ASIAD. At the 2014 ASIAD, Thu Thao surprised everyone by winning a silver medal with a jump of 6m44.
Also on the competition day, April 24, athlete Duong Thi Viet Anh won a silver medal in the high jump event when she cleared the 1m80 bar.
