Village chief invents pesticide sprayer for rice

(Baonghean.vn)- From a soil compactor, Mr. Truong Dac Phu - head of hamlet 6, mountainous commune of Quynh Tam, district of Quynh Luu has successfully invented a machine to spray pesticides on rice.

Realizing the health impact of farmers directly “carrying” the pump on their backs to spray chemicals to prevent pests on crops and through surveys of the fields after successful land consolidation, the banks and plots are all spacious and solid, convenient for mechanization in production. After studying and researching, in early 2017, Mr. Truong Dac Phu decided to turn the plow to make small land into a pesticide sprayer to free up labor for the people.

Accordingly, when finishing the task of tilling the land, Mr. Phu dismantled the two cages and attached a pump, a 500-liter water tank and an 80-meter long, 8.5-meter diameter hose to the plow to make the soil smaller at a cost of about 2.5 million VND to serve the work of spraying chemicals to prevent pests on rice. The machine has the advantage of being compact, moving quickly, only requiring one person to sit and operate the machine, one worker to go under the field to spray and from the nozzle, the chemical can fly 15-20 meters away, if the weather is windy, it can fly up to 30 meters.

When using the machine, it only takes 3 minutes to pump a sao of rice, but if using the manual pumping method, it takes up to 20 minutes and reduces costs by 10 - 15 thousand VND/sao compared to pumping by hand.

Mr. Phu's invention of a pesticide sprayer has prevented the harmful effects of pesticides, saved time, effort and did not damage the rice plant. Especially rice in the flowering period often has harmful diseases such as blast and neck, so using this spraying method will avoid the situation of rice pollen shedding, limit empty grains and increase high productivity at the end of the season. Along with that, when sprayed down, it creates a mist of pesticides that will penetrate evenly from the leaves to the rice stalks, so pest control is very effective.

Therefore, after the image of Mr. Phu spraying pesticides with a machine was posted on Facebook by some people, it quickly became known to many people; and many individuals in other provinces came to learn how to make the machine from Mr. Phu. Currently, this model is popular with the people and the local government highly appreciates the creativity of the talented village chief.

Mr. Ho Cong Khoan - Chairman of Quynh Tam Commune People's Committee said: "Mr. Truong Dac Phu is a very dynamic, creative, capable and enthusiastic hamlet chief in agriculture. After converting large plots of land, he focused on buying tractors and harvesters to serve the people. Recently, he invented a motor-powered pesticide sprayer, serving all 12/12 hamlets in the commune. This sprayer is very effective, reducing costs and productivity significantly."

Not only is he dynamic and creative in economic development, but Mr. Truong Dac Phu is also an enthusiastic and dedicated person to the movements of the village, creating trust among the people. Therefore, the results of all aspects of Hamlet 6 are always at the top, typically the highest average income per capita in the commune, at 25 million VND/year and up to now, the hamlet has achieved 17/19 criteria for building a new rural area.
