Village head invents pesticide sprayer for rice

(Baonghean.vn) - Starting with a soil tilling machine, Mr. Truong Dac Phu - head of Hamlet 6, Quynh Tam mountainous commune, Quynh Luu district - has successfully invented a pesticide spraying machine for rice.

Recognizing the health risks associated with farmers directly carrying sprayers on their backs to apply chemical pesticides to crops, and after surveying successful land consolidation areas where field boundaries were wide and sturdy, facilitating mechanization, Mr. Truong Dac Phu decided in early 2017 to transform his tillage plow into a pesticide sprayer to reduce manual labor for the people.

Accordingly, after finishing the land preparation task, Mr. Phu dismantled the two cages and attached a pump, a 500-liter water tank, and an 80-meter-long hose with an 8.5-meter diameter to the tiller at a cost of approximately 2.5 million VND to facilitate the spraying of chemical pesticides to control pests and diseases in the rice crop. The machine has the advantage of being compact, moving quickly, requiring only one person to operate it, and another worker to walk along the field to spray. From the nozzle, the pesticide can travel 15-20 meters, or up to 30 meters if the weather is windy.

When using the machine, it only takes 3 minutes to irrigate one sao (approximately 1000 square meters) of rice, but it takes up to 20 minutes if using the manual pumping method, and it reduces costs by 10-15 thousand VND per sao compared to manual pumping.

Mr. Phu's invention of a pesticide sprayer has helped to combat the harmful effects of pesticides, saving time and effort while preventing damage to rice plants. This method is particularly effective for rice during the flowering stage, when diseases like blast and neck blast often occur. Using this spraying method avoids pollen loss, reduces empty grains, and increases yield at the end of the season. Furthermore, the fine mist sprayed onto the plants allows the pesticide to penetrate evenly from the leaves to the stem, resulting in highly effective pest and disease control.

Therefore, after images of Mr. Phu's machine-based pesticide spraying were posted on Facebook by some residents, it quickly gained widespread attention; and many individuals from neighboring provinces have sought him out to learn how to build the machine. Currently, this model is popular among the people, and the local authorities highly appreciate the creativity of this talented village head.

Mr. Ho Cong Khoan – Chairman of the People's Committee of Quynh Tam commune, said: “Mr. Truong Dac Phu is a very dynamic, creative, capable, and enthusiastic village head in agriculture. After converting large plots of land, he focused on buying plows and harvesters to serve the people. Recently, he invented a motorized pesticide sprayer, serving all 12/12 villages in the commune. This sprayer is very effective, reducing costs and significantly increasing productivity.”

Not only is Mr. Truong Dac Phu dynamic and creative in economic development, but he is also enthusiastic and dedicated to the village's movements, earning the trust of the people. Therefore, Hamlet 6 consistently achieves top results in all aspects, notably having the highest average per capita income in the commune at 25 million VND/year, and having achieved 17 out of 19 criteria for building a New Rural Area.
