Quynh Luu: Exporting seafood to EU countries

(Banghean.vn) - With over 400 seafood purchasing and processing facilities, Quynh Luu district processes and exports 35-40 thousand tons of seafood annually.

In Quynh Thuan commune, fishmeal processing plants and facilities are urgently addressing environmental issues, repairing machinery, and have begun operations. Along with processing fishmeal for animal feed, many facilities in the district are also bustling with activity as they process various seafood for export. The sun-dried squid processing facility owned by Ms. Nguyen Thi Xinh in Quynh Nghia employs 5-7 workers to process sun-dried squid and shrimp. Ms. Xinh stated that it is currently the season for offshore squid fishing, so she purchases 2-3 tons of fresh squid each month to process into sun-dried squid.

"To make sun-dried squid, you need fresh, large squid; after purchasing them, they must be washed clean, cut lengthwise, then sun-dried for about one day before being packaged. Sun-dried squid is consumed everywhere, in restaurants..." - Ms. Xinh said.

Quynh Luu currently has 1,275 fishing vessels, including 695 offshore fishing vessels, with an average annual catch of 68-70 thousand tons. Along with fishing, the locality has developed a processing industry with over 400 households involved in purchasing and processing seafood, producing a wide variety of products such as fish sauce, shrimp paste, dried fish, dried shrimp, and dried squid. Accordingly, 1,000-1,500 tons of dried squid are processed annually; 4.7 million liters of fish sauce annually; 3,000-5,000 tons of various dried fish annually; and tens of thousands of tons of fishmeal.

Besides domestic consumption, the products are exported through informal channels to China, and some processed products such as fish fillets and frozen fish are exported to Russia and EU countries. The total annual processed and exported seafood production reaches 35-40 thousand tons/year.
