(Baonghean) - In Nghe An, over 961 km of provincial roads have been converted into national highways over the past 2 years (from December 2015 to February 2017). This conversion has had a huge impact on the management and upgrading of roads, while helping localities promote socio-economic development.

After the Ministry of Transport decided to convert some sections of provincial road 537B, Quynh Bang - Tan Son road; DT 531; DT 534 into National Highway 48E (April 8, 2016), local authorities and people on both sides of the road were really excited.

Mr. Vu Van Duong - Vice Chairman of the People's Committee of Quynh Bang Commune (Quynh Luu) shared: Upgrading this route to a National Highway (QL) is an important factor promoting the socio-economic development of the commune as well as the localities along the route. After the conversion, the route will be expanded, have a traffic safety corridor and will be invested in upgrading by the Central Government, creating conditions for people to participate in traffic safely. On the government's side, we will actively mobilize people to reach consensus so that the route through the commune can be expanded, creating momentum for development...".

National Highway 48E starts from Lach Con, Quynh Phuong Ward (Hoang Mai Town) to Nghi Thach Commune (Nghi Loc) with a total length of 214 km. This route has intersections, coinciding with National Highway 1A, National Highway 15, National Highway 48, National Highway 48D and Vinh City bypass. Thus, upgrading some DT routes to National Highway 48E plays an important role in the synchronous development of the road traffic network in the areas the route passes through.

At the same time, on April 8, 2016, the Ministry of Transport decided to transfer DT 538 and the road connecting QL7 with QL46B to QL7B, starting from Dien Ky commune (Dien Chau) and ending at Thanh Dong commune (Thanh Chuong), with a total length of 45 km. This route passes through several communes of Yen Thanh and Do Luong districts, connecting with QL7 and QL46, creating momentum for socio-economic development in the southwest of the province.

In Do Luong, the National Highway 7B passing through Quang Son, Minh Son, and Nhan Son communes, combined with the N5 route, has completed phase 1, opening up many opportunities for development. Mr. Le Truong in hamlet 7, Quang Son commune, excitedly said: "After being converted into National Highway 7B passing through the commune, we heard that the State will soon invest in upgrading this route, which will bring many advantages to the people in this rural area."

Most recently, in February 2017, the Ministry of Transport decided to convert DT533 and DT542 into QL46C with a total length of 113.8km. The starting point of QL46C is Nghi Hai ward (Cua Lo town) and the end point is Nam Son commune (Do Luong). This route will contribute to connecting and promoting socio-economic development in the eastern districts and towns of the province.

Previously, the Ministry of Transport also decided to upgrade the western route of Nghe An province to National Highway 16 (from Quan Hoa district, Thanh Hoa province to Muong Xen town, Ky Son district, Nghe An) with a length of 337.43km.

Through the 4 typical routes above, it can be seen that the transportation system in the province has been strengthened and will receive investment from the Central Government to upgrade, opening up many opportunities for local development.

The Ministry of Transport also authorized the Department of Transport to manage and maintain over 940km of national highways, thereby assigning tasks to the unit while linking the specific responsibilities of the industry with the roads in the province.

In addition to 961km of provincial roads in Nghe An that have been converted into national roads, in the past two years, the provincial People's Committee has also decided to convert 526km of district roads into provincial roads, bringing the total number of provincial roads to 840km. The conversion of district roads into provincial roads will be funded by the province's local transport sector to repair damaged sections and construction works.
