The bamboo rat weighs nearly 1kg and is almost 40cm long; its fur is white; its eyes, nose, and teeth are all pink.

According to Trung, he dug up this bamboo rat on the top of Phen mountain in the area. Unlike typical bamboo rat burrows, this one was very deep and had many nooks and crannies. It took Trung a whole morning to dig and catch this bamboo rat.

This was also the first time he had seen a white-furred and beautiful bamboo rat like this. After digging it up, he brought it home and has been raising it for over three months now. Many people have come to see it and offered high prices, but Trung hasn't sold it yet because he knows it's a very rare white-furred forest bamboo rat.

"Looking at the burrow and the dead bamboo, I guessed it was a mole's burrow. When I dug down to it, I was terrified, thinking it was a monster. It took me a while before I dared to grab a stick and catch it," Trung added.
