New images of the surface of Mars show large sand dunes that look like swarms of worms appearing in the Hellas Moon, believed to be a place where life could exist, Daily Star reported.

Image taken by the Mars Reconnaissance Orbiter (MRO). The dunes are crescent-shaped, similar to what can be seen on the surface of deserts on Earth.

Space scientists have been studying the atmosphere of Mars for decades, believing it could be a place where life could exist..

Traces on the scorched surface of Mars have fueled UFO hunters' belief that an ancient civilization once ruled the planet.

However, the US National Aeronautics and Space Administration (NASA) claims that these are simply sand dunes that have accumulated from sediments in volcanic craters or plains created by extremely large volcanic craters. NASA said that these sand dunes also appear on the eastern side of Mars.
