Drillers and construction workers earn millions during sidewalk clearance

(Baonghean.vn) - Vinh City is in the peak period of forced sidewalk clearance, many households have to hire drilling and cutting workers, construction workers to dismantle and renovate sidewalks according to regulations. Therefore, this time is considered the money-making season for those who work in drilling, cutting, and construction.

Walking around major streets such as Nguyen Van Cu, Nguyen Sy Sach, Le Hong Phong, etc., it is not difficult to recognize the image of drilling and cutting workers working busily, regardless of day or night. According to observations, every 4-5 houses on the street, there is at least 1 drilling machine operating during rush hour.

Mr. Nguyen Van Tuan, a drilling and cutting worker in Quan Bau ward, said: Since the city announced that it would launch a campaign to clear the sidewalks, I started receiving calls to drill and cut steps, steps, etc. And when the time came for enforcement, I worked day and night but still could not stop receiving customers.

According to Mr. Tuan, if the projects are small and easy to handle, the labor cost is about 200,000 VND/project. For complex encroachment projects, after drilling and cutting, if the homeowner requests the construction waste to be cleared, the amount to be paid is from 400,000 - 500,000 VND.

“Every day, my two workers and I receive about 5-7 customers, working from early morning to late afternoon. After deducting the cost of hiring people to transport construction waste, we still earn more than 1 million VND,” added Anh Tuan.

After dismantling illegal steps, people often hire porters to collect trash for about 100,000 VND/session; at the same time, they hire workers to rebuild steps and pave sidewalks. Therefore, many people are looking to hire construction workers.

Unlike drillers and cutters, construction workers are more numerous and easier to hire. On average, each construction worker is paid from 250,000 to 300,000 VND when completing a project. If there are many customers, they can earn nearly 1 million VND/day.

Mr. Cuong - a construction worker in Hung Yen Nam commune, Hung Nguyen district said: On average, I work for 3 households every day, earning about 800,000 VND; the salary is many times higher than working on housing projects.

Although the price is not cheap, many households still have to hire workers. Ms. Van in Truong Thi ward shared: “My family previously built a three-step staircase to make it easier to move cars, but now it is not easy to demolish it because both husband and wife work all day, do not have time, nor do they have the tools or experience to redo it, so we have to hire workers. Although the price is quite high, we have to accept it to get the job done.”

According to Mr. Tran Van Hung in Le Loi ward: "Hiring drillers and construction workers to do the whole job is the best way, you can direct the workers to demolish and redo it according to your wishes. If you wait until the time of enforcement, when the city's excavators and saws come in droves, they won't be able to do it according to your wishes. Well, it's a bit more expensive, but doing it first will be quick, neat, and clean."

Currently, the demand for drilling and cutting among city residents is increasing, while the number of professional drilling and cutting workers is limited, so finding skilled workers to complete the work before the enforcement time is sometimes very difficult.
