Nghe An: About 50 children die from drowning each year

(Baonghean.vn) – About 50 children die from drowning each year in Nghe An, that is a telling number, especially as summer is approaching.

On the morning of April 21, the "Launching of the 2017 Child Drowning Prevention Program" ceremony organized by the Provincial Youth Union Standing Committee in coordination with the Provincial Traffic Safety Committee and the Department of Education and Training took place in Vinh City. Attending the event were Comrade Le Minh Thong, Member of the Provincial Party Committee, Vice Chairman of the Provincial People's Committee, representatives of departments, branches and a large number of students, teachers and parents.

According to statistics from state agencies, on average, each year in the period 2010 - 2015, about 2,800 children died due to drowning. In Nghe An alone, on average, about 50 children died each year for this reason.

Drowning accidents for children not only cause serious damage to people and property but also significantly affect economic development and social security, causing extremely regrettable pain and leaving long-term consequences for many families and society.

This is the reason to launch the "Children Drowning Prevention Program 2017". At the ceremony, the representative of the Provincial Youth Union Standing Committee called for the implementation of a number of tasks for the Youth Union chapters at all levels in the province such as: promoting propaganda activities to warn of the risk of drowning accidents for parents and children; increasing warnings for parents as well as actively coordinating with families and schools to manage children; continuing to survey unsafe locations and installing warning signs; instructing children to raise their awareness of compliance, encouraging and creating conditions for them to learn to swim and practice first aid skills when drowning.

At the launching ceremony, Nghe An Provincial People's Committee donated 400 life jackets to support swimming lessons and teaching swimming to children, Van Minh Tourism Company donated 30,000,000 VND to make warning signs against drowning accidents.
