Quynh Luu farmers have a good spring peanut crop

(Baonghean.vn) -On sandy fields, farmers in the coastal commune of Quynh Nghia (Quynh Luu) are harvesting peanuts with joy of a good harvest and good prices.

This year, Ms. Le Thi Huong's family in village 3, Quynh Nghia commune is excited because this spring peanut crop has a higher yield and selling price than previous years. With 3 sao of peanuts, her family estimates that they will get about 700 kg of fresh peanuts, earning nearly 10 million VND.

Ms. Huong said that for this sandy land, only growing peanuts is effective. For many years now, the price of fresh peanuts has been high, so people have increased the planting area, and her family has also expanded by 1.5 sao.

Spring peanuts from planting to harvest takes 4 months. This year, the weather is favorable so peanuts grow well, have few pests and diseases, and achieve higher yields than previous years, with an average of 2.5 quintals per sao (50 - 70 kg/sao higher than the previous crop). Having just reached the yield, peanuts after harvest are purchased by traders at the field at a price of 13,000 - 14,000 VND/kg, 1,000 - 2,000 VND/kg higher than last year.

Warm and sunny weather from the beginning of the season has created favorable conditions for households to plant seeds on schedule, and peanuts have grown and developed well.

Mr. Nguyen Van Ho in village 4 said that this year's peanut crop was good, with bigger and more tubers; after the harvest, traders came to buy, and on average, people earned 2-3 million VND per sao of peanuts. In this coastal and sandy commune, growing peanuts is considered the main occupation and brings in more income than growing other crops.

Also on the peanut growing area, many households intercrop corn; in addition to 1 sao of peanuts yielding 2.5 quintals of tubers, people also harvest 1.5 quintals of corn. With the current corn price of 7,000 - 8,000 VND/kg, this brings in an additional income of about 1.2 million VND.

In the spring crop of 2017, Quynh Nghia commune structured 70 hectares of peanut area, focusing on growing in hamlets 1, 2, 3, and 4. With high productivity, this spring peanut crop is estimated to reach 280 tons, with revenue of nearly 4 billion VND.

In addition to Quynh Nghia, the communes of Quynh Dien, Quynh Thuan, Quynh Giang, Quynh Minh, Quynh Luong... are also preparing to harvest spring peanuts. The total area of ​​spring peanuts in the district is more than 200 hectares, averaging 2 quintals/sao, with an estimated output of 8,000 tons of peanuts.
