Suicide bomber in Russia identified

The Russian Investigative Committee has identified the suicide bomber who attacked the Saint Petersburg metro station on April 3, killing 14 people.

The suicide bomber was Akbarzhon Dzhalilov, born on April 1, 1995. He is of Kyrgyz origin.

RT quoted committee spokeswoman Svetlana Petrenko as saying: "The explosive device could have been detonated by the man whose body was blown to pieces in carriage number 3. His identity has been established."

Early this morning, the Kremlin spokesman confirmed that a suicide attack could be one of the causes of the tragedy in Saint Petersburg.

"This is one of the explanations that is being discussed and mentioned," Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov told reporters about yesterday's explosion.

Russian authorities announced that they have opened a terrorism investigation into the explosion that occurred on April 3.

Also related to the explosion in Saint Petersburg, the Kyrgyz foreign minister affirmed that it was the act of a suicide bomber.

Earlier, Kyrgyzstan authorities said the suspect who carried out the explosion at the Russian subway station was Akbarjon Djalilov. This subject was identified as a Russian citizen, born in Kyrgyzstan.

Kyrgyzstan's Foreign Minister Erlan Abyldaev said the suicide bomber's motive was not yet clear.
