On a flight from Doha to Hangzhou, a Chinese passenger surnamed Shen used the restroom and dropped a 2-karat diamond ring worth 300,000 yuan (nearly 990 million VND) into the toilet.Hangzhou Daily reported on May 24.

The man was very worried about losing the ring and rushed to seek help after landing. Normally, waste from the plane is sucked into a tank and dumped into a septic tank. Two airport employees waded into the tank barefoot and used a metal detector to search for the ring, but to no avail.

Suspecting the item was stuck in the container, they decided to get into the container and search using the flashlight on their phones.

After hours of searching, the two workers finally found the ring and returned it to its owner. Shen was both happy and surprised to receive the item back. He expressed his gratitude to the two employees who had gone into the sewage tank for him.

This is not the first time Chinese workers have had to wade through filth to find valuables. In March, a group of sanitation workers in Ningbo, Zhejiang province, spent six hours digging through eight tons of trash to find a woman’s diamond wedding ring.
