According to the experience of our ancestors passed down to many generations today, after the end of the Northern fishing season from the 10th lunar month of the previous year to the 3rd lunar month of the following year, the Southern fishing season also starts from the 4th lunar month and ends in the 10th lunar month.

To fish in the South, many Nghe An boats are currently shifting their fishing direction to Hai Phong - Quang Ninh.

Son Hai Commune, Quynh Luu District has 270 fishing vessels, with a total capacity of nearly 60 thousand horsepower. Seafood exploitation in Son Hai Commune, Quynh Luu District accounts for more than 50% of the total local income.

Along with fishermen in Son Hai commune, fishermen in coastal communes of Quynh Luu district such as Quynh Nghia, Quynh Long, and An Hoa, after docking and selling all their fish, quickly collect fishing gear, clean equipment and machinery, and return home for a few days of rest before continuing to buy necessities, transport ice, fresh water, gasoline, etc. during the southern fishing season.

Fisherman Nguyen Xuan Hanh - Tien My village, Tien Thuy commune, Quynh Luu district said: "On the first trip of the year, fishermen usually fish from Nghe An to Quang Binh and Quang Tri. As for the southern fish season, the fishing ground is Bach Long Vi, so we also focus on this area because there are a lot of fish."
