Vinh University: Scientific research associated with creative startups

(Baonghean) - Youth Union members of Vinh University not only lead in the volunteer movement, but also always affirm their position in scientific research, improving the quality of study associated with effective creative startup thinking.

Volunteer movement is exciting

Like many other friends, the student with a smiling face Nguyen Thi Thu Huong is one of the members of the On-site Volunteer Student Team of Vinh University. Nguyen Thi Thu Huong participated in volunteer activities since the first days of entering the lecture hall of Vinh University.

The student volunteer team that Huong joined has 9 permanent members and nearly 200 members who are always ready to take on tasks such as: solving unexpected problems of the school and the locality; welcoming new students; advising and helping first-year students in finding accommodation, getting acquainted and registering for credit-based studies; coordinating to ensure traffic safety around the school area...

The third-year student shared: “By volunteering, we can contribute, help others, exchange, learn, practice many soft skills, and live meaningful youth days, which makes all members of our team always love and be attached to Vinh University.”

Volunteering is a regular and effective activity maintained annually by Vinh University in many areas of activity, including promoting socio-economic development and international integration; promoting volunteering for community life; promoting national defense, maintaining political security, and social order and safety.

In 5 years, Vinh University students have undertaken 53 projects and youth tasks at the grassroots level to participate in socio-economic development, new rural construction, exam season support, admissions consulting, teaching Vietnamese in Laos; established social work teams at SOS Children's Village Vinh; donated and supported people affected by natural disasters...; led the whole province in the humanitarian blood donation movement by organizing 14 voluntary blood donation campaigns, collecting 4,842 units of blood.

Donated tens of thousands of clothes, books, notebooks, paper, pens, blankets, mosquito nets, food... and more than 800 million VND in cash to carry out the Campaigns "Border and island affection", "House of dreams". Vinh University Youth Union also organized well on-site volunteer activities including 184 volunteer teams with 6,767 volunteers.

Scientific research associated with entrepreneurial innovation

Nguyen Thi Hong Le - student of Class 54A, Institute of Mathematics, is one of the typical faces of Vinh University students in scientific research (NCKH). ​​With a passion for Mathematics and efforts to explore and study under the enthusiastic guidance of teachers and actively interacting with friends, she has won third prizes in the Elementary Mathematics Olympiad and Student Mathematics Olympiad organized by the school; receiving scholarships every year...

In addition, Le also won many awards from the Provincial Youth Union, the School Youth Union and especially was one of four students to participate in the Summer School organized by the Institute of Mathematics nationwide in Quy Nhon. This achievement is the result of the tireless efforts of many generations, including the imprint of the Youth Union movement that has contributed to forming the right learning attitude and training awareness for students, actively contributing to improving the training quality of the school.

Every year, Vinh University Youth Union effectively implements many activities to help students improve their learning quality and promote the effectiveness of scientific research such as the "Young Creativity" and "Youth Start-up" movements... With a long tradition, Vinh University students always win many awards such as: Silver Medal at the International Mathematical Olympiad in 2013; dozens of National awards and hundreds of provincial-level excellent student awards at high schools every year; Third prize in the Investor-State Dispute Litigation Competition under Free Trade Agreements (FIAM) 2016.

Activities to support learning and scientific research at the inter-branch level are also organized in many diverse forms such as: Faculty of Information Technology organizes a series of Seminars "Applied Graphics" and "Recruitment Training with VKX Company", "Computer Fireworks Display Competition"; Faculty of Electronics and Telecommunications organizes "Robocon Ball Shooting Competition"...

The Vinh University Youth Union also focuses on accompanying young people in career guidance and creative startups. Nguyen Duy Hoang, class 53, Faculty of Electronics and Telecommunications, and his friends in the Faculty's science and technology application research group, under the guidance and support of teacher Ta Hung Cuong, have successfully researched and applied them into practice, such as: Installing traffic light systems on some road sections in Hung Nguyen district and Nghe An - Xieng Khouang road from Vinh City to Cua Lo; installing flood warning systems in Hung Nguyen district; and smart lighting systems right in the school.

Most recently, this group is installing more than 100 4G signal towers according to the order of Viettel Military Telecommunications Group... "Researching and successfully applying the results of research topics to commercial applications also helps us in our first steps of starting a business, which is extremely important," Nguyen Duy Hoang shared.

Nguyen Duy Hoang’s research group is one of many examples of the youth movement of scientific research and creative startups at Vinh University. Focusing on career orientation and encouraging creative startups among students, in early April 2017, Vinh University established the Startup Research Center with many practical programs to help and support youth union members in starting businesses effectively.

Although newly established, the center has coordinated with Trung Nguyen Group to organize the exchange program "A good book will change your life"; coordinated with Ho Chi Minh City University of Economics, Suntory PepsiCo Vietnam Company to organize the program "Starting a business and getting rich"; coordinated with the Office of the National Council for Education and Human Resources Development to organize the workshop "Student start-up"; coordinated with the Central Committee of the Vietnam Youth Union, Hoa Sen Group, Thanh Nien Newspaper, Thanh Nien Television Channel VTV6 - Vietnam Television, to organize the program "Shining Vietnamese willpower".

Dr. Nguyen Anh Chuong - Secretary of Vinh University Youth Union said: "The Youth Union has achieved many achievements, always leading the youth volunteer movement of Nghe An province and the whole country. Besides, the factor that makes up the brand of Vinh University to which the Youth Union movement has made significant contributions is scientific research activities associated with creative startups.

The general goal of the Youth Union and youth movement of Vinh University, term XXX, 2017 - 2022 is: "Building Vinh University Youth Union to be strong in organization, diverse in content and forms of activities, creating a favorable environment for young union members to strive to study, practice, start a business, contributing to building the school into a key national university, a place to create the future for young people" with the slogan of action being "Youth of Vinh University: Solidarity - Creativity - Aggressiveness - Integration".

In the past 5 years, Vinh University has had 393 students achieving the title of excellent student, 4,077 students achieving the title of good student; 54 students graduating with honors, 1,494 students graduating with honors; completed more than 2,000 scientific research topics, 17 scientific research projects participating in and winning the award "Young Vietnamese Scientific Talent". Every year, 79 groups and 125 individuals with outstanding achievements in the student scientific research movement are awarded by the University's President.
