Recorded at Quan Lau market on the morning of May 14, pork prices have decreased significantly compared to previous days. Specifically: pork ribs were priced at VND95,000 - 100,000/kg half a month ago, now down to VND80,000/kg; pork butt is priced at VND70,000/kg, pork belly is down to VND60,000/kg.
Ms. Nguyen Thi Hoa - a pork seller at Quan Lau market said: "Never before has the price of meat dropped as sharply as it has now. In less than 2 weeks, the price has dropped by an average of 20,000 VND/kg. The price of meat has dropped sharply and sales have also improved."
These days, pork shops are popping up everywhere, from the streets and alleys in urban residential areas to rural residential areas. Pigs are cheap and difficult to sell, so many households slaughter them themselves to sell. Some people who used to buy vegetables from the countryside markets and bring them to the city to sell have now switched to selling pork.

“When the pigs are ready to be sold, there are no traders to buy them, so we have to slaughter them ourselves and bring them to the city to sell. Customers buy them and eat them well, so they come back to buy more the next day. I think it's a good deal, so I buy more pigs from my neighbors to earn extra money to raise my children and send them to school,” said Tran Thi Thanh, a pork seller at Vinh Station Market.
At Vinh Ga Market, there are about 30-40 pork stalls, many of which have just appeared in the last month, mainly bringing meat from other districts to sell. The price of meat at Ga Market has also dropped sharply in recent days, about 20,000 VND/kg.

Currently, in rural markets, pork prices have also decreased by 20,000 - 30,000 VND/kg depending on the type. At Can market, Hung Tan commune (Hung Nguyen), good quality pork butt is sold for 60,000 VND/kg, pork belly is 50,000 VND/kg, lean shoulder is 65,000 VND/kg...
“When the price of live pigs decreases, we also reduce the price of meat. Each pig only makes a profit of 150,000 - 200,000 VND, only taking the labor as profit. In fact, the farmers also lose a lot. We in the village and commune mainly help people sell pigs. If we sell cheap meat, many people will buy it and quickly release the herd for farmers" - Ms. Dao in Hung Tan commune shared.
