(Baonghean.vn) - While she was 2 months pregnant, when someone hired her to deliver drugs to someone else for 10 million VND, Ngo Thi Hanh agreed. While carrying the drugs to deliver to the customer, Hanh was discovered and arrested by the police.

On the morning of April 17, the People's Court of Nghe An province sentenced Ngo Thi Hanh (born 1983), residing in Hung Chinh commune, Vinh city, to 15 years in prison for "Illegal transportation of drugs".

According to the indictment, at around 5:00 p.m. on October 21, 2016, Hanh received a plastic bag containing crystal meth from a man named Sua to deliver to someone else and received 10 million VND. Hanh took the drugs to an alley, hid the drugs on the fence and waited.

Seeing the Criminal Investigation Police Team of Vinh City Police approaching, Hanh threw the drug package in the garden of a resident's house. The police arrested Hanh along with 1,100 grams of synthetic drugs. At the time of her arrest, Ngo Thi Hanh was 2 months pregnant with her third child. Hanh was released on bail pending investigation and trial.

At the trial, Ngo Thi Hanh admitted her crime. The defendant also had a previous conviction related to drugs. The panel of judges determined that the defendant's behavior was a dangerous recidivism, and that a sentence sufficient to deter and prevent reoffending was needed.

However, the defendant is 9 months pregnant, divorced from her husband and is currently raising two young children, has confessed honestly, repented... so the mitigating circumstances according to the regulations should be applied to demonstrate the leniency of the law.

Considering the aggravating and mitigating circumstances, the People's Court sentenced Ngo Thi Hanh to 15 years in prison but suspended the execution of the sentence until she is eligible to serve the sentence./.
