Two uncles and nephews 'own' 16 criminal records, stealing nearly 100 million

Discovering a woman driving a motorbike carelessly, two uncles and nephews with 16 criminal records opened the trunk, stole property worth nearly 100 million VND and escaped.

On May 10, the Investigation Police Agency of Thanh Xuan District, Hanoi announced that it had prosecuted and detained Pham Tien Manh (54 years old), residing in Bui Xuong Trach, Khuong Dinh (Thanh Xuan), with 5 criminal records, 4 previous convictions, and Pham Duc Trung (36 years old), residing in Hoang Mai District, with 6 criminal records, 1 previous conviction for theft of property and consumption of property obtained by others through crime.

At around 11:00 a.m. on May 3, Ms. Nguyen Thi Thang (65 years old), residing in Nguyen Chi Thanh, Lang Ha, Dong Da (Hanoi), drove her Honda Lead motorbike to house number 178 Khuong Trung, Khuong Trung ward (Thanh Xuan), stopped the motorbike and parked it on the street but still left the key in the ignition and went up to the sidewalk to buy fruit from a street vendor.

After finishing the purchase, Ms. Thang returned to the car to open the trunk to get money to pay and discovered that her black leather handbag had been stolen. Inside was an envelope containing 50 million VND, a savings book containing 24 million VND, an iPhone 6, and personal documents.

Upon receiving a report from Ms. Nguyen Thi Thang, using professional measures, the Criminal Police Team of Thanh Xuan District Police identified two suspects, Pham Tien Manh and Pham Duc Trung.

At the investigation agency, Manh confessed that because he had an appointment with a friend on Son Tay Street (Ba Dinh District), at around 8:30 a.m. the same day (May 3), Manh's nephew Pham Duc Trung rode a motorbike to his house to take him to meet him. On the way back, when he arrived at Khuong Trung Street, Manh saw a Honda Lead motorbike parked on the road in front of house number 178 Khuong Trung, the key was still in the ignition but there was no one on the motorbike. Trung stopped the motorbike for Manh to get off and walk to the Lead motorbike, opened the trunk and stole the handbag inside.

The two men then got in their car and drove straight home. The 50 million VND stolen was divided between Manh and Trung, and the remaining assets, such as phones, were pawned for money.
