A 6-month-old baby girl in the US died after being attacked by her family's dog.

Little girl Kamiko Dao Tsuda-Saelee was playing in her walker when she was mauled by the family dog ​​as her mother watched helplessly, Sun reported.

The incident took place on May 8 in Las Vegas, USA.

The victim was taken to the hospital but did not survive due to severe injuries.

The girl's mother, Layla Tsuda, tried to save her daughter but was unsuccessful. While using all her strength to pull the Pit Pull dog out, she suffered a head injury, according to KTNV.

According to her statement to police, Tsuda went into the bathroom for about a minute and when she returned, she witnessed the dog attacking her daughter.

"There are no words to describe this pain I feel," Tsuda said.

She added that the Pit Pull dog has lived with her family for 9 years and has never bitten anyone.

The dog is currently being held at the local animal shelter.

"The owner surrendered the dog to authorities…. A dog that attacks a person will never be adopted again," according to a statement from authorities.

"This is truly a tragedy. No matter how much you trust your pets, you still have to keep an eye on them," police officer Larry Hadfield advised.

Relatives of the victim are calling on the community to contribute to help the family cover medical and funeral costs.
