Seafood prices are high, fishermen in Quynh Luu are delighted.

(Baonghean.vn) - For several consecutive days, many fishing boats from Quynh Luu fishermen have docked at the port, celebrating a bountiful seafood catch, earning between 500 million and nearly 1 billion VND per trip.

Dozens of fishermen on the fishing boat numbered NA 90640 in Quynh Long commune, which docked on the morning of May 8th, could not hide their joy as their boat caught a bountiful haul of over 100 tons of fish.

Captain Nguyen Xuan Cuong said that this season is the most favorable for fishing because it's the peak season for southern fish. His ship sailed to the Gulf of Tonkin, bordering Chinese waters, to fish. In just 7 days, the ship caught over 100 tons of fish, earning over 600 million VND. As soon as the ship docked, traders flocked to buy all the seafood on board.

During this period, many fishing boats belonging to local fishermen continuously docked at Lach Quen port to sell their seafood. On average, each boat earned between 300 and 500 million VND. In particular, boats built under Decree 67 and those using purse seine nets by fishermen from Quynh Long and Tien Thuy districts, due to their larger capacity, modern machinery, and improved fishing methods, achieved higher yields; earning between 600 and 800 million VND per trip, with some boats even earning over 1 billion VND per trip.

Currently, both domestic and international markets are regularly purchasing and importing large quantities of seafood; therefore, prices have increased, with each type of seafood averaging a price increase of 10,000 - 20,000 VND/kg.

Ms. Ho Thi Huong, a trader who buys fresh squid at Lach Quen wharf, said that after the boats return, she contacts buyers to collect the squid; then she transports it to sell in the northern provinces. At this time, the demand for seafood from customers has increased, so prices are fluctuating and higher than before.

Currently, the price of mackerel is 140,000 - 150,000 VND/kg, an increase of 20,000 - 30,000 VND; grouper is 120,000 - 200,000 VND/kg; silver pomfret is 40,000 - 45,000 VND/kg; fresh barramundi is 35,000 - 40,000 VND/kg; fresh squid is 130,000 - 150,000 VND/kg...

For seafood processing facilities in the district, this period is also busy with the work of purchasing, selecting, and packaging seafood for export to the market.

Ms. Nguyen Thi Hoa, owner of Hoa Hoan seafood purchasing facility in Hamlet 6, Quynh Nghia Commune, is employing 40 workers to process seafood. After being purchased at the dock, the fish are gathered at the facility, then sorted, washed, frozen, and transported to markets in Saigon and China. On average, Hoa Hoan facility purchases, processes, and freezes over 1,000 tons of various seafood annually.

The entire Quynh Luu district currently has 1,279 fishing vessels, including 600 offshore fishing vessels. Thanks to the strong development of a high-capacity fleet, the offshore fishing needs of local fishermen have been met. In the first four months of the year, the total seafood catch in the district reached nearly 20,000 tons, an 8% increase compared to the same period last year.

In the joy of a bountiful harvest and good seafood prices, after docking to sell their catch, the fishermen of Quynh Luu continue to refuel, stock up on ice and other necessities to embark on a new fishing trip.
