'The biggest witch hunt in American history?'
(Baonghean) - Perhaps since sitting in the Oval Office, this has been the worst week for President Donald Trump, becoming a "victim" in what he calls "the biggest witch hunt in American history".
The appointment of a special prosecutor by the US Attorney General to investigate possible Russian interference and collusion from the Trump campaign in the race to the White House is truly a rare event!

When the President sees injustice
Today's chaos seems to be directly related to the firing of FBI Director James Comey that shocked the American public and everyone concerned last week.
Many people speculate that it was Mr. Trump's sudden dismissal of Mr. Comey, followed by comments implying that the White House owner made such a decision because he was "angry that the FBI opened an investigation into Russia," that prompted Attorney General Rod Rosenstein to appoint a special prosecutor to investigate whether or not Russia interfered and Trump campaign aides colluded in the US election.
After this not-so-good news was released on May 17, of course all eyes were on the businessman-turned-President. In a series of tweets that day, Mr. Trump did not hesitate to complain that he was being discriminated against compared to other prominent figures from the Democratic Party.
“In all the legal actions taken against the Clinton campaign and the Obama administration, there was never a special prosecutor appointed,” he wrote. “This is the single largest witch hunt against a politician in American history.”
Trump's comments were interpreted by analysts as signaling a policy of resistance to Mueller's investigation - a move that will now cast a dark shadow over the White House for months, if not years, to come.
And the White House must also face the harsh reality of the imminent threat when Mueller is about to "launch his move", especially when this "unprecedented" special prosecutor will be "armed" with almost limitless powers.
Notably, it is worth mentioning the right to issue a subpoena to require Trump to appear in court or personally interview the Oval Office owner during the investigation process revolving around the central question of whether any of Trump's close associates colluded with the Russians to influence the election process or committed any crime.

After all, the announcement of the appointment of a special prosecutor was the spark that ignited Trump's already simmering anger, as he felt he was being discriminated against in Washington and unfairly accused of Russian hacking that helped him win the election last November.
And that is why, in his opening speech at the US Coast Guard Academy on May 17, Trump exclaimed: "I am certain that no politician in history has been treated more badly and unfairly than I have."
Hurting America
As if not yet "satisfied", the White House boss of the past 4 months recently continued to warn about the unpredictable danger that the special prosecutor's investigation poses to the US.
“I believe it will seriously hurt our country, because it shows that we are a divided, chaotic, and ununited country. While we have many important things to do right now, such as trade agreements, military agreements, and nuclear deterrence…” - Washington’s number one politician declared while having lunch with a group of news anchors from various television channels.
Not stopping there, the US President also said that the upcoming investigation by former FBI Director Robert Mueller is actually motivated by wanting to erase his election victory at the end of last year.
The Republican couldn't hide his harsh attitude: "It's just an excuse for the Democrats to lose the election, that they should have won easily because the electoral college was overwhelmingly in their favor. That's all it is. I think it shows division, and shows that we're not a united country, which is a very negative thing. And hopefully this can pass quickly, because we have to show unity if we want to do great things with the rest of the world."

As noted by CNN, Trump's anger contrasts sharply with the widespread welcome and anticipation in Washington for special prosecutor Mueller.
As Cornell University law professor Jens David Ohlin shared: “On the one hand, this information is bad for Trump, but it is good news for those who want a tough investigation because Mueller is certainly a decisive and prestigious figure when he was FBI director.”
Expert Ohlin also commented: "Comey was fired because they wanted to stop the Russia investigation. But that backfired, now there is a special prosecutor and this person is even tougher than Comey. When the ability to control and handle this situation is no longer there, things will definitely get worse for the White House."
With Mueller's reputation, it can be affirmed that, whatever conclusion this former FBI Director ultimately reaches after the investigation process, that content will receive wide public acceptance.
However, from now until then, the White House will have many headaches and the US President, who has been in office for just 4 months, will have to try to adapt to the fact that the announcement of the "special" appointment on May 17 also marks the time when Trump "meets" the rules that are usually applied to other politicians and that he has long "broken".
