US President Donald Trump on May 22 warned Iran to stop supporting rebels and terrorists, and stressed that Iran must never be allowed to develop nuclear weapons.

The warning came during a joint press conference between Mr Trump and his Israeli counterpart Reuven Rivlin.

“The United States and Israel stand united in declaring: Iran must never be allowed to possess nuclear weapons, never. It must also stop all support, training, and funding for terrorist and militant organizations. Iran must stop immediately,” President Trump said at the Israeli Presidential Palace.

The US considers Iran a “state sponsor of terrorism”. Washington accuses Tehran of supporting the government of Syrian President Bashar al-Assad, Houthi rebels in Yemen, Hezbollah rebels in Lebanon… causing instability in the Middle East.

Israel is the second stop on President Trump’s first foreign trip, after he visited Saudi Arabia and met with Arab leaders to discuss “eradicating terrorism.”
