Vinh City General Hospital received the transfer of percutaneous nephrolithotomy technique from 108 Military Central Hospital. It is known that this is the first hospital in the North Central region to deploy this superior technique.

Percutaneous nephrolithotomy is one of the minimally invasive treatment methods, the "gold standard" for treating large and complex urinary stones. There are cases that previously only required open surgery, but now percutaneous nephrolithotomy can be applied, such as coral stones, stones in transplanted kidneys, urinary system malformations such as horseshoe kidneys, ectopic kidneys...

Percutaneous nephrolithotomy using a small tunnel is a new technique with many advantages: small incision, less pain, avoids infection, low complication rate, shortens treatment time and costs.

The advent of percutaneous nephrolithotomy has gradually replaced open surgery to remove kidney stones, bringing about clear results in the treatment of kidney stones. For simple stones, the rate of stone removal after surgery can reach 100%. In complex cases (coral stones), the rate of stone removal can reach about 80-85%.

On the first day of implementation, 4 patients were treated with this modern surgical method at the hospital.
