The young man from Do Luong won third prize in the 'Folk Song Star 2017' competition.
(Baonghean.vn) - Outperforming hundreds of contestants, Hoang Van Tuyen and 11 other outstanding contestants advanced to the final round with performances featuring distinctive folk music.
On the evening of April 11th, the final round of the "Folk Song Star 2017" competition took place at the Hanoi Student Cultural Center. Hoang Van Tuyen (21 years old), a third-year student at the Military University of Culture and Arts, from Hamlet 6, Nam Son Commune (Do Luong District), was honored to win third prize.

Tuyến said that in the final round, each contestant had to sing one song, and those selected for the top 3 had to perform one more. Tuyến sang two songs: "Ngược dòng Hương Giang" by composer Đức Trịnh and "Tiếng Việt" - lyrics by Lưu Quang Vũ, music by Lê Tâm. Tuyến's performance was well-received, and Meritorious Artist Thu Huyền commented: "Quite perfect, with a soulful, soft voice, rich in folk music style."
Winning third prize in this competition was a very meaningful gift for Tuyen, as it was her first time participating since entering university. “I came to the competition mainly to network and learn. I am very happy and grateful to have won this prize; it’s both a beautiful memory and a source of motivation for me to try harder,” Tuyen shared.

Tuyen is the youngest of three siblings. Her father was a soldier who passed away when Tuyen was in 10th grade; her mother is a farmer, and no one in her family pursued an artistic career. Tuyen loved performing arts from a young age. While attending school in her village, Tuyen was a bright star in the school and village's performing arts group, and even won first prize in the Village Lotus Singing Festival at Anh Son High School (Nghe An).
Passionate about singing, Tuyen always dreamed of getting into an art school during her high school years. Being accepted into the Military University of Culture and Arts was a great joy for Tuyen. Her forte is classical and folk music.
After winning an award at the "Folk Song Star 2017" competition, Tuyen received many congratulations and encouragement from friends and family. Currently, Tuyen is participating in the "Voice of Nghe An" competition organized by Nghe An Television. Speaking about his dreams, the young man from Do Luong said: "I want to dedicate myself to art, to be able to walk and stand firm on the path I have chosen."
The "Folk Song Star 2017" competition, organized by the Hanoi Student Cultural Center in collaboration with the Vietnam Association of Stage Artists, is a valuable platform for students in Hanoi, taking place from March 21st to April 11th. The judging panel includes renowned artists and music critics such as People's Artist Tu Long, Meritorious Artist Thu Huyen, and music theorist Nguyen Quang Long… Having surpassed hundreds of contestants in the preliminary round, 12 outstanding contestants advanced to the final round with performances of folk songs and songs with distinctive folk influences. Three contestants were selected by the organizers to be among the top 3 and receive awards. |
