Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan affirmed on June 23 that Ankara will never allow the establishment of a state in northern Syria, Xinhua News Agency reported on June 24.

Speaking in the southeastern Turkish province of Sanliurfa, Edorgan said: "Currently, there are some negative developments in Syria. If this poses any threat to our borders, the world should know that Türkiye will react as we did in the Euphrates Shield operation."

In addition, Mr. Edorgan also warned that the US should abandon its relationship with the Kurdish People's Protection Units (YPG) in Syria.

President Edorgan stressed: "We told our strategic allies to build cooperation with us in the fight against the self-proclaimed Islamic State (IS), but they chose to cooperate with terrorist groups."

In late August 2016, the Turkish army launched the "Euphrates Shield" military operation inside Syria to destroy IS, as well as prevent the advance of YPG fighters, the military wing of the Kurdish Democratic Union Party (PYD), which has been outlawed by the Ankara government.

Türkiye's move to send troops across the border into neighboring Syria has met with strong opposition from the Damascus government, accusing it of violating the country's territorial sovereignty.
