Foods good for the thyroid
The thyroid gland is located in the front of the neck and regulates important bodily functions such as body temperature, breathing, heart rate, body weight, and even the menstrual cycle in women.
Diet plays an important role in the healthy functioning of your thyroid. Here are the foods you should eat to maintain a healthy thyroid.
Yogurt
Yogurt is rich in vitamin D and probiotics which help ensure thyroid health. It helps balance good bacteria in the gut, which is often disturbed by thyroid imbalance.
Salmon
Salmon is the best seafood to boost metabolism. Salmon contains omega-3 fatty acids that enhance anti-inflammatory properties. A study published in The Journal of Nutritional Biochemistry found that eating salmon is the most effective in reducing inflammation and also helps with weight loss.
Olive oil
Dietary fats such as healthy oils help the body function properly and even lose weight. Olive oil contains antioxidants that fight many diseases such as cancer and osteoporosis and increases serotonin (a hormone associated with satisfaction) in the blood.
Green tea
Green tea contains antioxidants that help to break down fat cells from the body. It also helps the liver convert fat into energy, thus boosting metabolism. Green tea helps burn more fat and therefore drinking one to two cups of green tea is beneficial.
Egg
Egg whites are low in calories, fat-free, and packed with metabolism-boosting protein. Egg yolks are packed with metabolism-boosting nutrients like fat-soluble vitamins, essential fatty acids, and choline, which attacks the gene that triggers the body to store fat around the liver.
