(Baonghean) - To contribute to the sustainable development of the rural environment, recently, many localities have had good practices, contributing to timely preventing the destruction of landscapes, environment, and excessive concreting of the urbanization process.
Mass organizations get involved
In the process of building the rural transport system to build the new rural area, many trees have been cut down, affecting the living environment of the people. In response to this situation, for many years now, the Nghi An Commune Ornamental Plants Association (Vinh City) has taken on the task of replanting trees on village roads and alleys, helping agencies and offices take care of ornamental trees, creating a friendly environmental landscape, ensuring that all concrete roads in the commune have ornamental trees and shade trees.

In Kim Phuc, Kim Chi, Kim My hamlets (Nghi Kim commune, Vinh city), taking advantage of the bonsai craft village, members have volunteered to contribute seedlings to provide hamlets with new plantings on roads and home gardens. Many members have learned and skillfully bred many rare bonsai species, with beautiful shapes and multi-faceted values. Many home gardens have been invested in and built, becoming attractive ecological places, attracting people to come and enjoy. Thereby, arousing a movement for the whole population to actively plant and protect ornamental trees, contributing to ensuring a clean environment and combating climate change.
Mr. Nguyen Dinh Truc - Vice Chairman of Nghi An Commune People's Committee said that in order to develop the movement comprehensively, in addition to strengthening propaganda and mobilizing members to effectively build models in their home gardens, the Ornamental Plants Association also provides tree varieties, designs and decorates green works suitable for the typical spaces in cultural and historical relic sites, public entertainment areas and agencies, schools. At the same time, actively propagate, mobilize and guide people on techniques for planting ornamental trees and shade trees, both to beautify the family and create a landscape for the village. This approach has contributed to developing the rural environment according to sustainable criteria.
In Nghi Xuan commune (Nghi Loc), the National Highway 46C running through the commune has been given a new look by the self-managed tree model of the Commune Veterans Association. This 3 km long road has been planted and cared for by the Association since 2008. More than 3,000 acacia trees have been planted along the road, creating a green, airy space. With the task of self-management, the Association has assigned its branches to regularly organize tree care and protection activities.
Mr. Nguyen Huu Hanh - Chairman of the Association of War Veterans of Nghi Xuan commune shared: "The first days of planting trees encountered many difficulties. Because the road runs along the Lam River, when the water level rises, the trees' roots are flooded and die en masse. But all members are unanimous and determined not to abandon the project." To ensure the number of trees on the road, 3 times a year, the Association mobilizes 100% of its members to coordinate with local organizations to organize general cleaning, weeding, pruning, and tree care. Up to now, all the planted trees are growing and developing well, about 6 - 7m in height, with the largest diameter reaching 20cm.
Mr. Pham Ngoc Duyen - Chairman of Nghi Xuan Commune People's Committee commented: "The self-managed green tree model of the Commune Veterans Association is a good and practical model, not only creating shade, green and airy space but also bringing great efficiency in ecological balance and environmental protection in the locality".

People contribute
These days, coming to Kim Trung hamlet, Nghi An commune, people cannot help but be amazed by the beauty of the concrete village roads decorated with colorful beds of ten o'clock flowers stretching out. This is a "product" of the people here in the movement to build a sustainable and developing new rural hamlet. Participating in flower planting from the very first days, Ms. Duong Thi Phuong Dung excitedly said: "The movement of planting ten o'clock flowers in front of the alley started with only a few households with the purpose of "cleaning the grass". Ten o'clock flowers are very easy to grow, just need to stick the branches and they spread very quickly. A few months later, the flower beds began to bloom, surprising and delighting many people, gradually everyone enthusiastically responded to build a ten o'clock flower road for the hamlet. Seeing the beautiful flowers, the village roads and alleys were cleaner, people started to find flowers to plant in the area around their houses".
Ms. Tran Thi Huong - Vice President of the Women's Association of Kim Trung hamlet said: "This beautiful road today is the result of launching a movement to build a green, clean, and beautiful landscape according to the criteria of the new rural area. People here, despite being busy with their fields and gardens, still spend their free time to fertilize and water the flower rows.
In Bach Cam village, Nghi Lien commune (Vinh city), the people here have a clear awareness that "building a new rural area is building for yourself", so everyone enthusiastically responded and participated in the tree planting program to create a green - clean - beautiful landscape for the village. Specifically, the strength and resources of the whole community have been mobilized, with 300 cajuput trees, 10 mango trees, 15 areca trees on an area of 2,450 m2, the village's cultural house has a new look with fresh green color. Mr. Nguyen Dinh Dinh - Secretary of Bach Cam village shared: "With this model, people contribute to the implementation of activities to protect the sustainable living environment, and at the same time demonstrate the spirit of ownership in the construction of the new rural area".
In fact, the rural environment is under pressure from the urbanization process. But with good models like in Nghi An, Nghi Xuan or Nghi Lien communes, it has proven the opposite reality, if people are responsible for their own living environment. Mr. Nguyen Dinh Truc - Vice Chairman of Nghi An Commune People's Committee affirmed: "Environmental criteria need to be maintained and developed. Not only building green - clean - beautiful village roads, but also contributing to the planning of development into a "green buffer zone" for the city".
