Russian An-26 military aircraft crashes, 6 soldiers injured and killed

At least one soldier was killed and five others were injured when a Russian military An-26 transport plane crashed during a training flight.

The Russian Defense Ministry said on May 30 that the accident occurred at the Balashov military airport, part of the Krasnodar Higher Military Aviation School in the Saratov region.

“The plane caught fire during a difficult landing. One serviceman died and five crew members were quickly taken to a medical facility by rescue aircraft,” the Russian Defense Ministry said in a statement.

The ministry also said that preliminary information from the scene suggested that the cause of the accident could be an engine short circuit. A special commission of the Russian Ministry of Defense has been deployed to investigate the cause of the accident.
