Mr. Dang Ngoc Dung, Secretary of Ai Nghia town (Dai Loc district, Quang Nam) was born in 1962 but his Party profile shows he was born in 1967.

VietNamNet received a petition reflecting that Mr. Dang Ngoc Dung falsified his year of birth to receive recognition for his achievements.

According to information from Dai Loc Department of Internal Affairs, Mr. Dung's "real year of birth" is 1962. Mr. Dung's school records after the country's reunification recorded his date of birth as October 2, 1964.

However, in the list of proposals for awarding the second-class resistance medal in 1995 established by the District People's Committee, he was born in 1956, had the achievement of "5 years working as a revolutionary base and sharpening 150 spikes".

Not only that, in his Party profile (M1), Mr. Dung declared his year of birth as 1967.

Mr. Dang Ngoc Dung (right) is being inspected for falsifying his age.

Talking to reporters, Mr. Dung admitted that he had declared the above birth years.

Mr. Dung said he was born in late 1962. After the country was unified, he went back to school and registered his birth year as 1964.

In response to accusations that he deliberately falsified his age to win a medal, he claimed that he had contributed to the resistance movement as a teenager. At that time, he was about 8 years old, living in Dien Tien commune (present-day Dien Ban town) and participated in sharpening spikes, erasing traces of local guerrillas.

Do not lie about your age to get a promotion.

Mr. Dung said that his achievements in the war were real, sharpening spikes and erasing guerrilla traces were achievements that were considered for medals. As for adding 6 years to his age to complete the application, it was because someone instructed him to do so.

He also admitted that lying about his age was wrong. However, he said he did not lie to get a medal or to advance his career.

"I did not falsify my age to legitimize the staff structure," Mr. Dung said, adding that his staff records were based on the year of birth of 1967, 5 years younger than his actual age.

Born in 1962 but Mr. Dung's personnel records are based on the year of birth 1967.

Mr. Pham Luong, Head of the Department of Internal Affairs of Dai Loc district, said that the district Party Committee and People's Committee have directed the inspection department to verify the records of Mr. Dang Ngoc Dung.

Mr. Luong asserted that there was a falsification of Mr. Dung's year of birth, and this was wrong.

"I worked directly with Mr. Dung and asked why his medal application stated his birth year was 1956. Mr. Dung replied that someone instructed him to write his age earlier because he was afraid that he was too young and his achievements would not be recognized. This was a false statement," said Mr. Luong.

The Department of Internal Affairs is continuing to check and clarify the records of the Secretary of Ai Nghia town.

Mr. Luong said he had asked Mr. Dang Ngoc Dung to submit a request to return the medal to create fairness. Mr. Dung also admitted his mistake and agreed to submit a request.

"Here he only lied about his age, but lied about his achievements is more serious," said Mr. Luong.
