Speaking at his 15th online public dialogue, President Putin said Moscow and Washington could cooperate in efforts to prevent the proliferation of nuclear weapons and mass destruction, including North Korea's nuclear and missile issues.
According to Mr. Putin, the two countries can also cooperate to deal with the problem of global poverty and efforts to prevent climate change.
In addition, the Russian leader hopes Washington can play a “positive role” in resolving the Ukraine crisis.
Once again, President Putin rejected all accusations of his country interfering in the US presidential election, saying that Moscow had expressed its views publicly and did not participate in any covert actions.
Referring to Russia's mid-term plans in Syria, the Russian President said that the country plans to increase the combat capabilities of the Syrian armed forces, thereby allowing the redeployment of Russian troops to current Russian bases and reducing the military presence in Syria.
However, the Russian air force will still support Syrian forces where needed. The Russian leader stressed: “We aim to establish a political settlement process (in Syria) between all parties involved.”
President Putin added that the construction of a bridge connecting mainland Russia with the Crimean peninsula is still going according to plan.
Regarding the development of the Arctic region, President Putin stated: “The Arctic is Russia's most important region with great potential, because by 2050 about 30% of all hydrocarbons will be exploited in this region.”
According to Mr. Putin, it can be confidently said that Russia's power and capabilities will be linked to the Arctic. Therefore, Mr. Putin emphasized the importance of ensuring Russia's sovereignty, security of economic activities and transport routes in the Russian Arctic region.
In terms of defense capabilities, Mr. Putin also assessed this as an extremely important area./.
