Facebooker Mother Mushroom gets 10 years in prison

On the afternoon of June 29, after a day of trial, Khanh Hoa People's Court sentenced Ms. Nguyen Ngoc Nhu Quynh (38 years old, residing in Nha Trang City) to 10 years in prison for the crime of Propaganda against the State.

According to the indictment, from 2012 to 2016, Ms. Quynh used the blog and Facebook names Nguyen Ngoc Nhu Quynh, Me Nam, Me Nam Gau, and Nguyen Nhu Quynh to post many articles and clips with content that "distorted the truth, distorted history, and opposed the policies of the Party and State".

In 2014, Ms. Quynh was accused of gathering 31 cases of people who died while working; were temporarily detained and held at the police headquarters; then posted them on Nguyen Ngoc Nhu Quynh's Facebook page, causing readers to misunderstand the nature of the incident, causing disunity between the people and the State.

In October 2016, Ms. Quynh was prosecuted and arrested by Khanh Hoa Police. Ms. Quynh is known to many people as Mother Mushroom on social networks.
