Application of advanced technology in seafood exploitation

(Baonghean.vn) - Currently, some offshore fishing vessels in Quynh Luu district have installed modern electrical and electronic equipment such as horizontal detectors, hydraulically driven net collectors... to improve fishing efficiency.

In early 2017, Mr. Dau Ngoc Minh - owner of the NA 98968 TS ship in Son Hai commune (Quynh Luu) invested more than half a billion VND to buy a Wesmar HD860 horizontal detector with American technology. This device has a probe stabilization technology, helping to detect fish without being affected by bad weather or rough seas. The horizontal detector not only helps him identify the type of fish and the density of the fish school, but also estimates the size of the fish in the school, thereby saving fuel, time and effort.

According to Mr. Minh, the Wesmar HD860 horizontal detector is an underwater target locator using hydroacoustics, which can detect fish not only right under the bottom of the ship but also in all directions and corners around the ship within a radius of 3,000m. This device is different from the previous one in that it scans more clearly, distinguishing between land and fish.

Quynh Long currently has 170 vessels, of which more than 70% have a capacity of 90CV or more. In the past 10 years, when people boldly built large ships, large engines, equipped with more modern machinery and equipment such as horizontal detectors, radars, long-range communication devices, hydraulically driven net collectors, net winches..., the exploitation efficiency has increased 3-4 times compared to before. Like Mr. Nguyen Van Minh's household in Dai Bac village, Mr. Nguyen Sang's household in Dai Hai village, each household has 3 vessels for seafood exploitation; the average monthly income is 300 million VND/household...

In Quynh Luu district, there are currently 42 ships being built according to Decree 67 of the Government; including 4 iron-hulled ships, valued at 17 - 19 billion VND/ship. Fisherman Nguyen Kim Duong in Manh Son Parish, Tien Thuy Commune said: "Previously, 480CV wooden ships had to employ 12 - 15 workers, now although the ships are bigger and have bigger engines, they only employ 10 workers. For each trip at sea, we have an income of 6 million VND/person or more, our life is more stable than before".

Not only focusing on the application of science and technology, high technology in exploitation activities, the preservation of fish is also applied by the people with freezing technology using cold storage tunnels using PU materials; the rate of high quality fish is over 90%. Therefore, the products exploited by fishermen are purchased by enterprises, production and trading households, and craft villages for processing, meeting the increasing demand of the domestic market; at the same time, they are directly exported to markets in the region and the EU market.

Quynh Long Commune (Quynh Luu) currently has 170 boats, of which more than 70% have a capacity of 90CV or more.

The modernization of exploitation, processing and aquaculture has contributed to increasing the total production value of the district's fisheries sector. In 2016, the total output of the district's fisheries reached over 55 thousand tons, worth over 1,500 billion VND. Mr. Dang Ngoc Binh - Vice Chairman of the People's Committee of Quynh Luu district said: "Thanks to the application of high technology in the field of fisheries exploitation, the fishing efficiency is relatively good, with many types of fish of economic value such as mackerel, hairtail... meeting the quality and export requirements".

The transfer of advanced technology and techniques in seafood exploitation is the right direction for Quynh Luu district. This is also one of the important solutions to increase the value of exploitation, limit risks at sea, and contribute to the effective restructuring of the seafood industry.
