'Russia ready to grant asylum to former FBI director'
That was the statement of Russian President Vladimir Putin during the annual question and answer session held on June 15 in Moscow.
According to RT news agency, the comment that former Director of the Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI) James Comey, while leading the FBI, recorded a conversation with US President Donald Trump and then passed it on to the press is "very strange".
“It's strange that Mr. Comey suddenly said that he recorded the conversation with Trump and then leaked it to the media,” the Russian President commented.

Mr. Putin said that Mr. Comey is no different from former US National Security Agency contractor Edward Snowden. Therefore, if any prosecution against Mr. Comey occurs, Russia is ready to provide shelter for the former FBI Director.
“We are ready to grant Comey political asylum, if he is prosecuted in the US,” Putin added.
Also during the Q&A, when commenting on former FBI Director James Comey's testimony before the US Congress, the Russian leader said that Mr. Comey did not provide any evidence to prove that Russia interfered in the US election.
He noted that one could point to any point in the world and see American interests. "We have our own views, we express our opinions openly, and we do not have secret subversive activities," he said.
In another development, on June 15, US President Donald Trump responded to US media reports that former FBI Director Robert Mueller was investigating the possibility that Mr. Trump intentionally obstructed the judiciary.
“They (the media) created the Fake Collusion with the Russians story. With no evidence, now they are creating the Obstruction of Justice story on the same Fake Story,” Trump shared on Twitter.
Former FBI Director Mueller is now the special prosecutor overseeing the investigation into alleged Russian interference in the US election. The Washington Post reported on June 14 that Mueller is investigating Trump for possible obstruction of justice.
