'The press must refute content that causes internal division and disunity'

...Today, we are very pleased to attend the 92nd Anniversary of Vietnam Revolutionary Press Day (June 21, 1925 - June 21, 2017) and launch the response to the National Press Award on Party building - Golden Hammer and Sickle Award, the 2nd time, 2017. On behalf of the provincial leaders, I would like to send to the delegates, the team of journalists in the province and delegates of the press agencies residing in the province my best wishes!

92 years ago, the first issue of the “Thanh Nien” newspaper, founded by leader Nguyen Ai Quoc, marked the birth of the Vietnamese revolutionary press. During the resistance wars, as well as in the cause of building and defending the Fatherland, under the leadership of the Party and beloved Uncle Ho, the Vietnamese revolutionary press has grown remarkably and made great contributions to the great revolutionary cause of the Party and our nation.

The press is a sharp tool for propaganda to protect the interests of the nation and people, to protect the Party and the regime. Promoting the glorious revolutionary tradition, the press has done well in its task of informing and communicating about policies, laws, leadership, management and administration of the Party and the State and reflecting all aspects of political, economic and social life. Strengthening communication about new factors, models, good practices, praising good people and good deeds in conjunction with promoting the study and following of Ho Chi Minh's ideology, morality and lifestyle. Fighting against distorted and wrong arguments. Actively participating in preventing corruption, waste, negativity, and manifestations of moral and lifestyle degradation, contributing to creating consensus and building a better society.

In 2016, under the leadership and direction of the Provincial Party Committee, People's Council, Provincial People's Committee and the coordination of departments, branches and organizations in the province, the types of press in the province continued to develop strongly in all aspects.

Up to now, the whole province has nearly 700 cadres, reporters, technicians, and employees working in 48 central and local press agencies. In the cause of innovation, the press in the province has not only contributed to improving the spiritual life of the people but also directly propagated the resolutions, guidelines, and policies of the Party and the laws of the State to the people. The information has been updated promptly to the majority of people in the province, including in remote and isolated areas, thereby consolidating and strengthening the great solidarity of the people in the cause of building the homeland and the country.

The press agencies in the province have actively innovated in the form and content of propaganda, increased the number of specialized pages, columns, many quality articles and reports, creating a good effect on public opinion in areas such as Party building, the fight against corruption and negativity, the new rural construction movement, the "skillful mass mobilization" movement... Thereby, promptly discovering, encouraging and promoting typical examples, new factors, good people, good deeds in all fields... contributing to the Party Committee and people of the province to successfully carry out the tasks of socio-economic development and maintaining national defense and security.

The Journalists Association and press agencies in the province regularly take care of building and developing a team of journalists who are "both red and professional", have a strong will, pure moral qualities, good skills, and proficient in their profession, and create journalistic works with correct ideological and political orientation, have a positive impact on social life, and are worthy of the love and trust of the people in the province. In 2016, many works won high prizes in the National Press Awards and the National Radio and Television Festivals. Typically, the group of reporters from Nghe An Radio and Television Station won 1 A prize, 1 C prize of the 2016 National Press Award; the group of reporters from Nghe An Newspaper won 1 B prize of the 1st National Press Award on Party building - Golden Hammer and Sickle, 1 C prize - National Press Award 2016. Many collectives and individuals won other noble awards from the Central and the province.

On behalf of the provincial leaders, I would like to warmly commend and congratulate the achievements of the collective and individuals working in the province in the past time!

The 92nd anniversary of Vietnam Revolutionary Press Day this year takes place in the atmosphere where the entire Party, the entire army and the people of the province are actively competing to successfully implement the goals of the resolutions of the Party Congresses at all levels for the 2015-2020 term and Resolution No. 26-NQ/TW of the Politburo on the direction and tasks for the development of Nghe An province until 2020. Nghe An has had many encouraging achievements in many fields: the economy has grown quite well, culture and society have made much progress, national defense and security have been consolidated and maintained, and the material and spiritual life of the people has been constantly improved.

However, in general, Nghe An still faces many difficulties in socio-economic development and political system building; besides, hostile and reactionary forces are increasingly intensifying propaganda, distortion and agitation activities, causing complications in security and order in the area,... Therefore, it is necessary to focus on implementing many synchronous solutions to promote internal resources, attract external resources, strongly arouse the spirit of solidarity and unity of all classes of people in the province to promote socio-economic development, build a strong political system, maintain political stability and social order and safety. In that common cause, there is a great responsibility of reporters, editors, and the team of journalists in the province. To further promote the achievements that have been achieved, in the coming time, I suggest that the team of journalists in Nghe An province focus on performing well the following tasks:

First of all, it is necessary to continue to promote the dissemination of the Party's guidelines and policies, the State's and the province's policies and laws on press development, especially Directive 37-CT/TW of the Party Central Committee Secretariat (9th tenure) on continuing to enhance the role and quality of activities of the Vietnam Journalists Association in the new period; Resolution of the 10th Central Conference (11th tenure) on the National Press Development Planning Project to 2025.

Second, the Provincial Journalists Association, the governing bodies and press agencies need to continue to innovate the content and methods of operation; regularly listen to comments and criticisms from readers, radio listeners and television viewers; strive to ensure that all information content on the provincial press system is highly topical, rich, diverse and attractive, increasingly meeting the ever-expanding and developing information needs of the people; positively and effectively impact the formation of healthy public opinion, contributing to encouraging the strength of the entire people to carry out the political tasks of the province; perform well the function of orienting public opinion, directing people to the values ​​of truth, goodness and beauty, creating consensus in society; at the same time, actively and proactively inform and refute defamatory, fabricated, slanderous content that causes internal division and disunity within the Party and in society. Resolutely condemn and fight against corruption, waste, negativity, and social evils, contributing to raising awareness of correct ideology, ethics, and a pure and healthy lifestyle among cadres, party members, and the people.

Third task, each cadre, reporter, editor must regularly practice, maintain professional ethics, improve professional qualifications, affirm the political mettle of journalists in the beloved homeland of Uncle Ho; each journalist is a soldier on the ideological - cultural front, so it is necessary to closely follow the political tasks of the province and real life to quickly, accurately, objectively, and honestly inform the Party's guidelines and policies, the State's policies and laws; actively set an example of "good people, good deeds", criticize negative phenomena in society; promote the image of Nghe An to domestic and international friends.

The Golden Hammer and Sickle Award is a national press award on the topic of Party building chaired by the Central Organizing Committee, Communist Magazine, Vietnam Television in coordination with the Central Propaganda Department, Ministry of Information and Communications, Vietnam Journalists Association launched for the first time on the occasion of the 126th anniversary of President Ho Chi Minh's birthday (May 19, 2016), since then becoming an annual press award for outstanding press works on Party building.

Organizing the annual Press Award on the topic of Party building is a very important and necessary task, especially in the current context. The Award is organized to encourage, motivate and create motivation for journalists, reporters and press agencies to continue to invest their efforts and intelligence to explore and discover good topics and typical factors on Party building to produce quality articles and works, contributing to improving the leadership capacity and fighting strength of the Party, maintaining and strengthening the people's trust in the Party and the cause of national renewal.

In the summary of the first Golden Hammer and Sickle Award in 2016, Nghe An was highly appreciated by the Central Government for its organization and response work, and was the leading unit in the top group in terms of achievements. The theme of this year's Golden Hammer and Sickle Award continues to focus on Party building and rectification; preventing and repelling the degradation of political ideology, morality, lifestyle, and manifestations of "self-evolution" and "self-transformation" within the Party; building a clean and strong Party organization; improving the quality of the contingent, cadres, and Party members. Building a streamlined apparatus of the entire political system that operates effectively and efficiently; stepping up the fight against corruption, waste, and bureaucracy; "promoting the study and following of Ho Chi Minh's ideology, morality, and lifestyle", the movement to build new rural areas, the movement of "skillful mass mobilization", and patriotic emulation movements in the fields of socio-economics, national defense and security.

The Provincial Party Standing Committee has issued a plan and official dispatch to direct the organization to respond to the Award. At this solemn celebration, on behalf of the provincial leaders, I officially launched the response to participate in the National Press Award on Party building - Golden Hammer and Sickle Award 2017 in the whole province. I request the team of journalists in Nghe An province, the Journalists Association, and press agencies to perform well the fourth task, which is to coordinate with relevant agencies and actively respond to participate. This is both a task and a demonstration of the sentiment and responsibility of the team of revolutionary journalists for our Party building work.
