President Tran Dai Quang meets with Chairman of the Russian Federation Council

On the afternoon of June 28 local time (evening of the same day Hanoi time), within the framework of his official visit to the Russian Federation, in Moscow, President Tran Dai Quang had a meeting with Chairwoman of the Russian Federation Council (Senate) Valentina Matvienko.

At the meeting, President Tran Dai Quang expressed his pleasure at his first official visit to the Russian Federation as President, and thanked the Russian leaders and people for their warm and respectful welcome to the Vietnamese delegation.

President Tran Dai Quang highly appreciated the results of the visit to Vietnam in February 2017 by Chairwoman of the Federation Council of Russia Valentina Matvienko, especially the organization of the Seminar on Local Cooperation within the framework of the visit with the participation of many local leaders of Vietnam and the Russian Federation, hoping that the Federation Council of Russia will continue to support Russian localities to develop cooperation with Vietnamese provinces and cities, in accordance with the potential and needs of both sides.

President Tran Dai Quang affirmed that Vietnam always attaches importance to and prioritizes consolidating and enhancing the comprehensive strategic partnership with the Russian Federation on the basis of strong traditional friendship, focusing on developing effective and substantive cooperation between the two countries in all fields; is pleased to see that the two countries have a trustworthy political relationship; and is especially impressed with the sentiments and enthusiasm of Russian leaders, including Ms. Valentina Matvienko, in bringing the relationship between the two countries increasingly deeper, more substantive and more effective.

President Tran Dai Quang expressed his belief that, in her current position, Chairwoman of the Federation Council Valentina Matvienko will continue to consolidate and enhance cooperation between the Federation Council of Russia and the National Assembly of Vietnam in particular and the cooperative relationship between Vietnam and the Russian Federation in general.

Ms. Matvienko warmly welcomed President Tran Dai Quang on his official visit to the Russian Federation, was pleased to know that the meeting at the Federation Council was the President's first activity upon arriving in Russia, and said that the President's visit is of great significance to the Vietnam-Russian Federation relationship, and believes that the results of the visit will create a strong impetus to promote all-round cooperation between the two countries.

Chairwoman of the Federation Council of Russia Valentina Matvienko affirmed that the relationship between the two countries' parliamentary bodies plays an important role in Russia-Vietnam relations; highly appreciated the fact that the two countries' National Assemblies maintain regular contact and dialogue, and closely cooperate at international parliamentary forums such as the Inter-Parliamentary Union (IPU) General Assembly, the ASEAN Inter-Parliamentary Assembly (AIPA), the Eurasian Women's Forum, the Conference of Speakers of Eurasian Countries' Parliaments, etc.

The two sides expressed their hope that the two countries will make strong strides in bilateral economic and trade cooperation, and work together to reach the target of 10 billion USD by 2020 as agreed by the two countries' senior leaders; highly appreciated the cooperation between the two countries in areas such as energy, defense-security, education-training, culture, tourism, science-technology, etc.; affirmed to continue close cooperation at multilateral forums, especially during APEC Vietnam Year 2017.

On this occasion, President Tran Dai Quang conveyed to Chairwoman of the Federation Council Valentina Matvienko the greetings and best wishes of health from Chairwoman of the Vietnamese National Assembly Nguyen Thi Kim Ngan and Vietnamese leaders./.
