US wants to mend relations with Russia

(Baonghean.vn)- On June 6, US Secretary of State Rex Tillerson said that President Donald Trump asked him to rebuild the relationship between the US and Russia, and not allow the political turmoil surrounding Moscow's alleged involvement in Trump's election campaign to hinder efforts to mend US-Russia relations.

Speaking to reporters in Wellington, New Zealand, after meeting with host country Prime Minister Bill English, US Secretary of State Tillerson said that the relationship between the US and Russia has reached a record low and is deteriorating, and the US President has asked him to work to stabilize the relationship and rebuild trust.

Secretary of State Tillerson said he could not comment on the details of the Russia investigation because he did not have direct knowledge. According to Mr. Tillerson, President Trump will not allow these “political scandals” to hinder efforts to mend relations with Russia.

Referring to President Trump's provocative Twitter posts, including the US leader criticizing the Mayor of London after the terrorist attack that killed seven people and injured dozens at London Bridge over the weekend.

“The president has a unique way of communicating with the American people, and the world. And that serves him very well, and I don’t intend to advise him on how to communicate. That’s up to him,” the top US diplomat said.
