Promoting Vietnam - Indonesia relations on all channels
Deputy Prime Minister Vuong Dinh Hue visited the Chairman of the ruling Indonesian Democratic Party and worked with the Chairman of the Indonesian Investment Coordinating Committee.
During his working visit to Indonesia (July 19-21, 2017), on July 20, Deputy Prime Minister Vuong Dinh Hue paid a courtesy call to the President of the ruling Indonesian Democratic Party of Struggle Megawati Soekarnoputri; worked with the Chairman of the Investment Coordinating Committee Thomas Lembong; attended and delivered an important speech at the Dialogue with a group of senior experts and Indonesian businessmen.

The meeting with President of the ruling Indonesian Democratic Party of Struggle Megawati Soekarnoputri took place in a warm and friendly atmosphere. The two sides highly appreciated the traditional friendship and the Vietnam - Indonesia Strategic Partnership built on a solid foundation established by President Ho Chi Minh and President Soekarno and nurtured by generations of leaders and people of the two countries.
The two sides were pleased to note the steady progress in the recent Vietnam-Indonesia relations, especially when the two countries upgraded their bilateral relations to Strategic Partnership in 2013; agreed to continue to deepen the bilateral relations through high-level visits and contacts in the coming time and promote bilateral relations through all channels of the Party, State, Government, National Assembly and people-to-people exchanges.
President Megawati recalled the good impressions when he visited Vietnam as President of Indonesia in 2003, the two sides signed the "Joint Statement on the Framework of Friendly and Comprehensive Cooperation Entering the 21st Century" and the "Agreement on the Delimitation of the Continental Shelf Boundary", creating a solid foundation for the bilateral relationship in important areas; affirmed to always support the Vietnam - Indonesia Strategic Partnership regardless of position.
Deputy Prime Minister Vuong Dinh Hue expressed his respect and appreciation for the great contributions of the late President Soekarno and the Chairwoman to the Vietnam-Indonesia relationship; affirmed Vietnam's consistent policy of valuing and wishing to strengthen the friendship and strategic cooperation between the two countries both bilaterally and multilaterally, contributing to consolidating solidarity, unity and promoting ASEAN's central role in the region.

Previously, during a working session at the Indonesian Investment Coordination Committee, Deputy Prime Minister Vuong Dinh Hue and Chairman of the Investment Coordination Committee Thomas Lembong were pleased to note that the cooperation between the two countries in the fields of economics, trade and investment has been continuously promoted. Indonesia is currently the 30th investor out of 119 countries and territories investing in Vietnam with 61 projects and a total capital of nearly 500 million USD; agreed that the two sides still have a lot of room to expand investment, especially in potential fields such as infrastructure, energy, telecommunications, banking, etc.
On that basis, the two sides agreed to encourage relevant ministries, branches and business communities of the two countries to promote information exchange, investment promotion and business connection to seek opportunities for cooperation, joint ventures, associations and mergers, helping to increase the competitiveness of ASEAN businesses and contribute to the formation of the ASEAN Economic Community.
Deputy Prime Minister Vuong Dinh Hue affirmed the Vietnamese Government's determination to reform, open up, restructure the economy, and actively support the private sector to promote all resources, enhance competitiveness, and deeply integrate the Vietnamese economy into the regional and world economy.
The Deputy Prime Minister suggested that Indonesia increase investment in Vietnam and participate in the reform and restructuring of state-owned enterprises and the financial-banking system. President Thomas Lembong highly appreciated Vietnam’s achievements in socio-economic development, considering them a great source of inspiration for other ASEAN countries.
Chairman Lembong assessed that Vietnam's hosting of APEC 2017 is an opportunity to strengthen solidarity and cooperation within the bloc as well as cooperation between ASEAN and dialogue countries in the region, and Indonesia strongly supports Vietnam's successful role as host of APEC 2017.

Also on July 20, a seminar was held with the theme “Geopolitical and geo-economic shifts in the region and the responses of Southeast Asian countries, including Vietnam and Indonesia”. The seminar was attended by many experts, scholars and prominent Indonesian businesses, leaders of relevant ministries and sectors and a number of Vietnamese businesses.
Attending and delivering the opening speech, Deputy Prime Minister Vuong Dinh Hue emphasized that the world is witnessing a new power shift process on an unprecedented scale globally since the beginning of the 21st century and is currently taking place faster and faster, with many new features, more profound and complex, deeply impacting all countries in the region and the world.
Vietnam, Indonesia and ASEAN share a fairly similar foundation in terms of economic and social conditions, and are facing intertwined opportunities and challenges. Vietnam and Indonesia in particular and ASEAN in general need to further strengthen cooperation, consolidate intra-bloc solidarity, and coordinate closely to better respond to challenges, seize opportunities to serve security and development goals, as well as contribute to ensuring peace, stability, cooperation and common prosperity in the region./.
