The tragic drowning accident occurred at around 5:00 p.m. on June 3, 2017 in Hamlet 15, Son Thanh Commune, Yen Thanh District (Nghe An).

At that time, Nguyen Van Tien, a 7A student at Son Thanh Secondary School, was herding buffalo to help his family.

The weather was hot, Tien and some friends went swimming in the lake, but because the water was too deep, Tien lost his balance and drowned.

A representative of Son Thanh Commune Police said that Tien is the son of Nguyen Van Dat and Nguyen Thi Phuong, who live in Hamlet 15, Son Thanh Commune. Dat and Phuong have three children, and Tien is the only son in the family. At school, Tien is a student with good academic performance.

On the morning of June 4, the family held a funeral for her according to local customs.
