At the rally commemorating the 70th anniversary of War Invalids and Martyrs Day this morning in Hanoi, General Secretary Nguyen Phu Trong sent his warm regards, deep affection and deep gratitude to revolutionary veterans, heroic Vietnamese mothers, heroes of the People's Armed Forces, wounded and sick soldiers, relatives of martyrs, and people with meritorious services to the revolution.

According to the General Secretary, throughout thousands of years of building and defending the country, our people with a passionate spirit of patriotism have united as one, regardless of hardships and sacrifices, steadfastly fought against foreign invaders, firmly protecting the independence, freedom, unity and territorial integrity of the Fatherland.

During the struggles, millions of the nation's best sons devoted their youth, willing to sacrifice themselves for the Fatherland, bravely fought, heroically sacrificed or suffered lifelong disabilities.

"The blood and sacrifice of the heroic martyrs have colored the glorious revolutionary flag so that our country can blossom with independence and bear fruit of freedom. Millions of heroic martyrs, grandparents, parents, wives, husbands, children... will never see their most beloved ones again. The heroic martyrs have brought glory to the nation and to the race. The good name of those comrades will forever be recorded in history books," said the General Secretary.

The General Secretary said that over the past 70 years, the Party and State have always paid attention to, led, and directed the work of war invalids and martyrs, people with meritorious services to the revolution, and organized and mobilized the entire population to actively participate in gratitude movements.

To date, more than 9 million meritorious people have enjoyed preferential policies. At the same time, the search and collection of martyrs' remains have been stepped up, and thousands of martyrs' cemeteries have been built and renovated...

Step up the search and collection of martyrs' remains

The General Secretary emphasized that implementing preferential policies for people with meritorious services is both a sacred sentiment and a noble responsibility of the entire political system and the entire population, and is also a factor ensuring social progress and justice.

The General Secretary noted that special attention should be paid to families of meritorious people in difficult circumstances, meritorious people who are currently living alone and without support, families of meritorious people in ethnic minority areas, remote areas, and former revolutionary bases, and strive to prevent meritorious people's households from falling into the category of poor households.

“On the basis of mobilizing all social resources in combination with State resources, strive by 2020 for 100% of families of people with revolutionary contributions to have a standard of living equal to or higher than the average of the residential community,” the General Secretary emphasized.
