At the rally commemorating the 70th anniversary of War Invalids and Martyrs' Day this morning in Hanoi, General Secretary Nguyen Phu Trong extended his heartfelt greetings, profound sentiments, and deep gratitude to revolutionary veterans, heroic Vietnamese mothers, heroes of the People's Armed Forces, war invalids and sick soldiers, relatives of martyrs, and those who have contributed to the revolution.

According to the General Secretary, throughout thousands of years of nation-building and national defense, our people, with their fervent patriotism, have united as one, regardless of hardship and sacrifice, bravely fighting against foreign invaders, firmly protecting the independence, freedom, unity, and territorial integrity of the Fatherland.
In these struggles, millions of the nation's finest sons and daughters dedicated their youth, readily sacrificing themselves for the Fatherland, bravely fighting, heroically dying, or suffering lifelong injuries.
"The blood and sacrifices of the heroic martyrs have adorned the glorious revolutionary flag, allowing our country to blossom with independence and bear the fruits of freedom. Millions of heroic martyrs, grandparents, parents, wives, husbands, children... will never again see their dearest loved ones. These heroic martyrs have brought glory to the nation and honor to our race. Their good name will be forever recorded in history," the General Secretary said.
The General Secretary stated that over the past 70 years, the Party and the State have consistently paid attention to, led, and directed the work of caring for wounded soldiers, martyrs, and those who have rendered meritorious services to the revolution, and have organized and mobilized the entire population to actively participate in movements of gratitude and repayment.
To date, more than 9 million people who rendered meritorious services have benefited from preferential policies. At the same time, efforts have been intensified to search for and collect the remains of martyrs, and thousands of martyrs' cemeteries have been built and renovated...

According to the General Secretary, these responsible and compassionate actions have received the support of the entire society, arousing and nurturing profound humanistic values.
With a spirit of self-reliance and resilience, many wounded soldiers, sick soldiers, relatives of martyrs, and meritorious individuals have overcome their disabilities and difficulties, reintegrated into life, and continued to contribute their strength and intellect, setting shining examples in their work and studies.

The General Secretary emphasized that effectively implementing preferential policies for those who have rendered meritorious services is both a sacred sentiment and a noble responsibility of the entire political system and the whole nation, and a factor in ensuring social progress and justice.
The General Secretary noted that special attention should be paid to families of meritorious individuals who are in difficult circumstances, those who are currently living alone and without support, and families of meritorious individuals in ethnic minority areas, remote areas, and former revolutionary base areas, striving to ensure that no family of meritorious individuals falls into the category of poor households.
"Based on mobilizing all social resources combined with state resources, we strive to ensure that by 2020, 100% of families of those who have rendered meritorious services to the revolution will have a living standard equal to or higher than the average living standard of the community where they reside," the General Secretary emphasized.
