(Baonghean.vn)- On June 26, British Prime Minister Theresa May's Conservative Party signed an agreement with the Democratic Unionist Party (DUP - the largest party in Northern Ireland), which will allow the Conservative Party to take control of the country after losing its majority in the general election earlier this month.

"A deal has been struck," Mrs May's spokesman confirmed. The deal was signed by senior Conservative official Gavin Williamson and senior DUP member Jeffrey Donaldson in the presence of Prime Minister Theresa May and DUP leader Arlene Foster.

Ms Foster said she was delighted the deal had been struck, while Prime Minister May stressed the Conservatives and DUP “shared many values” and the deal was “very good”.

The Conservative Party won only 317 seats out of 650 in the Parliament after the election on June 8, and needs a coalition with the DUP party, which has 10 seats in Parliament, to be able to take power.

Meanwhile, according to The Sun, Prime Minister May has agreed to provide an additional £1 billion to Northern Ireland to gain the support of the DUP./.
