How will Chelsea play with Morata?

The Spanish rookie's mobility in attack allows coach Antonio Conte to experiment with many new formations.

Conte was the one who asked Juventus to recruit Alvaro Morata, before he left the club to take charge of the Italian national team. The coach also spent a lot of time watching Juventus play so he understood the 24-year-old striker's ability.

Conte is expected to help Chelsea's attack operate more effectively than last season, when they won the title with Diego Costa playing up front.

Morata is quick, strong, technical and has good finishing ability. He is not only a replacement for Diego Costa but also brings other qualities to Chelsea's attack. That is why Chelsea spent 92 million dollars to get the Spanish striker, not Romelu Lukaku.

According to Goal (Italy), in order not to disrupt the style of play that helped Chelsea win the Premier League last season, Conte will continue with the 3-4-3 formation. Morata will play as the highest striker, replacing Costa. The two strikers supporting him are Eden Hazard and Pedro. All three attackers have good individual skills. Fans will look forward to small group coordination between this trio.

Conte's ideal 3-4-3 formation for Chelsea.

Several times last season, Conte switched to a 3-5-2 formation when opponents defended deep. The Italian coach often brought on Cesc Fabregas, providing more passing opportunities. Morata, one of the two strikers who played up front, would benefit from this change.

Chelsea's 3-5-2 formation.

At the beginning of last season, Chelsea played in a 4-4-2 formation with two true strikers up front. This formation did not work well when Diego Costa did not coordinate well with young striker Michy Batshuayi.

Batshuayi has made a difference on several occasions coming off the bench, notably scoring the goal that won Chelsea the title. Morata is a striker who can combine well, so when needed Conte can use this formation.

4-2-4 (or a 4-4-2 variation) is also another promising option for Conte next season.
