(Baonghean.vn) - On the morning of July 18, in Phonsavan town, Xieng Khouang province (Lao PDR), the ceremony to celebrate the 55th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations and the 40th anniversary of the signing of the Treaty of Friendship and Cooperation between Vietnam and Laos took place.

Before the ceremony, the delegates came to offer flowers and incense to commemorate the heroic martyrs at Xieng Khouang Provincial Cemetery. They expressed their gratitude for the noble sacrifices of the heroic martyrs, and vowed to continue to foster the everlasting friendship between the two peoples of Vietnam and Laos.

At the ceremony, on behalf of the provincial leaders, Comrade Xom Cot Mang No Mech - Member of the Central Committee of the Lao People's Revolutionary Party, Secretary and Governor of Xieng Khouang province read a speech reviewing the tradition of solidarity, friendship and international cooperation between the two parties and the two peoples of Laos and Vietnam in general and the twinned provinces of Xieng Khouang province in particular.

At the same time, he affirmed the great contributions of President Ho Chi Minh and President Kaysone Phomvihane in building and nurturing the Laos-Vietnam friendship. For the sake of friendship, Vietnam spared no effort in shedding blood and bones to fight together with Lao tribes to gain independence, freedom and happiness for the people.

In his speech, comrade Xom Cot Mang No Mech also affirmed: We are always ready and do everything to continuously foster the friendship, special solidarity and comprehensive cooperation with Vietnam, including the friendship and solidarity between Xieng Khouang and Nghe An.

On behalf of the provinces that have sister provinces with Xieng Khouang province, speaking at the ceremony, Chairman of the Provincial People's Committee Nguyen Xuan Duong affirmed the special friendship between Vietnam and Laos.

Throughout history, the special relationship between the two countries and peoples has always been closely and faithfully connected. Not only limited to economic cooperation, the two sides also cooperate in other fields such as education and training, health, agriculture and rural development... In addition, cooperation between localities sharing common borders is also focused on and concerned.

The Chairman of the People's Committee of Nghe An province also sent his best wishes for Xieng Khouang province to continue developing, and for the Vietnam - Laos friendship in general and between Nghe An and Xieng Khouang provinces to be forever strong.

On the occasion of the 55th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations and the 40th anniversary of the signing of the Treaty of Friendship and Cooperation between Laos and Vietnam, the State and Government of the Lao People's Democratic Republic awarded the Second Class Medal, Third Class Medal and Certificate of Merit to Vietnamese provinces and units that have made many contributions to fostering the Laos-Vietnam solidarity and friendship.
