1. General Secretary directs to clarify Mobifone's purchase of AVG

Speaking at the opening of the meeting, Prime Minister Nguyen Xuan Phuc praised and highly appreciated the sectors, especially the Ministry of Labor, War Invalids and Social Affairs, for advising the sectors to effectively implement the Party and State's policy of caring for war invalids, sick soldiers, families of martyrs, and people with meritorious services to the revolution on the occasion of July 27. Regarding education, the Vietnamese delegations participating in the International Olympiad in Mathematics, Physics, Chemistry, and Biology achieved excellent results. This is the first time we have achieved such outstanding results.

3. Prime Minister attends Vietnam Private Economic Forum

On July 31, in Hanoi, the Vietnam Young Entrepreneurs Association and the Mekong Sub-regional Development Initiative (MBI), established by the Asian Development Bank (ADB) and the Australian Government, jointly organized the 2nd Private Sector Economic Forum (VPSF), with the theme "Private Sector Action Plan from Resolution 5 of the 12th Central Committee". Prime Minister Nguyen Xuan Phuc attended and delivered a speech.

Speaking at the Forum, Prime Minister Nguyen Xuan Phuc affirmed the political determination and expectations of the Party and State on the role and position of the private economy. The recent Resolution No. 5 of the Central Committee has identified the development of the private economy as an important driving force of the economy; at the same time, it called for the removal of all barriers and the creation of all favorable conditions for the development of the private economy in a healthy and correct direction.

4. Mr. Trinh Xuan Thanh surrendered

On July 31, Mr. Trinh Xuan Thanh, born on February 13, 1966, registered permanent residence at: House 24 - C2 Ciputra, Tay Ho, Hanoi; currently a wanted suspect under Decision No. 20/C46-P12 dated September 19, 2016 of the Investigation Police Agency, Ministry of Public Security, came to the Criminal Duty Office of the Investigation Security Agency, Ministry of Public Security to surrender.

The Security Investigation Agency, Ministry of Public Security has completed procedures to receive the criminal who surrendered in accordance with legal regulations.

5. Deputy Minister Ho Thi Kim Thoa submitted her resignation.

After submitting the letter, Ms. Thoa requested leave (from August 1) and during this time, Deputy Minister Do Thang Hai will temporarily be in charge of the management areas that Ms. Thoa was assigned to undertake at the Ministry.

However, this person said that the leaders of the Ministry of Industry and Trade do not have the right to decide whether or not to let Ms. Thoa resign, but must be at a higher level because she is an official of the Central Secretariat. According to the prescribed procedure, after the Party Committee of the Ministry of Industry and Trade meets, reports are sent to the Government Party Committee, this agency will report to the Central Secretariat for consideration and decision.

6. Mr. Tram Be was arrested

On August 1, the Department of Investigation Police on Economic Crimes and Corruption (C46 - Ministry of Public Security) temporarily detained Mr. Tram Be (58 years old, former Vice Chairman of the Board of Directors and Chairman of the Board of Credit of Sacombank) for the act of intentionally violating state regulations on economic management causing serious consequences.

Accused of the same act, Mr. Phan Huy Khang (former member of the credit council, former General Director of Sacombank) and 15 people who are former officials of TPBank, BIDV, directors of companies... were also detained for 4 months.

6.Hanoi concludes the case of Van Mieu ward officials

7. Welder prosecuted in bakery fire that killed 8 people

On August 2, the Hanoi City Police Department issued a decision to prosecute the case and issue an emergency arrest warrant for Mr. Kieu Tien Vinh, 31 years old, residing in Long Xuyen commune, Phuc Tho district, Hanoi to investigate the violation of fire prevention and fighting safety regulations.

Mr. Vinh was identified as a welder performing welding work at a bakery when a fire broke out that killed 8 people in Duc Thuong commune, Hoai Duc district, Hanoi.

According to initial information, the cause of the fire was determined to be that during the welding repair process, Mr. Vinh caused an electric spark to hit flammable materials, causing the workshop to catch fire.

8. Floods cause heavy damage to people and property in the northern mountainous provinces.

Last week, in the mountainous and midland provinces of the North, there continued to be widespread heavy rain. In some localities, flash floods and landslides occurred, causing heavy damage to people, houses, and infrastructure of the people and the State, especially in Muong La district, Son La province and Mu Cang Chai district, Yen Bai province.

After inspecting and surveying the damage caused by flash floods in the provinces, on behalf of the Prime Minister, Deputy Prime Minister Trinh Dinh Dung sent condolences to the people and local authorities, expressed his condolences to the families of the victims, and praised and appreciated the proactiveness of Party committees at all levels, authorities, armed forces, agencies, organizations and local people in overcoming the consequences of floods.
