Nghe An is a province with a large population, with nearly 3.261 million people, the population distribution in the province is uneven. In recent years, the province's population/family planning work has achieved many important results: By the end of 2016, the crude birth rate decreased to 16.75‰, the birth rate of the third child or more was 16.15%, the birth rate reached 2.69 children/couple. The quality of the population and average income per capita are increasingly improved.

However, compared to the general goal of the national population work, especially the birth rate and the rate of births of 3 or more children. Currently, the whole country has reached the replacement birth rate and the Population - Family Planning work is aiming to improve the quality of population and quality of life in a sustainable way, Nghe An has not yet completed the work of reducing births, especially the rate of births of 3 or more children is at a high level and tends to increase again (in some localities such as: Quynh Luu, Yen Thanh, Dien Chau, Hoang Mai, Do Luong, Nghi Loc,...)

Although the quality of population has been improved, there are still many limitations in meeting the needs of building quality human resources. In addition, many new problems have arisen that need to be focused on solving, such as the issue of gender imbalance at birth and population aging...

At the workshop, the delegates focused on discussing, analyzing, and objectively and comprehensively evaluating the population/family planning issues of the province in the past time; at the same time, they learned about the advantages, difficulties, causes of the existing problems and limitations and proposed effective solutions to effectively implement population/family planning work in the coming time.

Focusing on solutions to reduce birth rate and the rate of third or more children in the locality in 2017 such as: improving the effectiveness and efficiency of population and family planning management; improving the effectiveness of communication, education to change behavior, and investing resources in population and family planning work.

On that basis, strive to successfully complete the set goals and targets, contributing to improving population quality and promoting local socio-economic development.
