(Baonghean.vn) - The Nghe An Provincial Police have just discovered an individual suspected of committing fraud and misappropriating property through the social network Facebook, amounting to tens of millions of VND.

Based on information from the public, on July 15th, authorities summoned Nguyen Thi Ha (born in 1991), residing in Nghi Phong, Nghi Loc, who showed signs of committing fraud and misappropriating property on the social media platform Facebook.

During questioning at the investigative agency, Nguyen Thi Ha confessed that from the beginning of 2017 until now, she had used various Facebook accounts to carry out fraudulent online transactions to misappropriate property.

Specifically, Nguyen Thi Ha created three Facebook accounts to buy and sell clothes online. She used one account named "Thanh Ngoc" to post sales ads, and the other two accounts to purchase goods.

When someone buys goods from the "Thanh Ngoc" account, Nguyen Thi Ha requires the buyer to transfer money in advance via bank transfer and ship the goods later. If the buyer agrees, she will continue to use her remaining Facebook accounts to buy goods from other people at lower prices and quality, and then obtain the bank account number of that person and transfer it to her buyer on the "Thanh Ngoc" Facebook account, requesting the buyer to transfer the money.

After the buyer transferred the money, the suspect would meet the seller directly, the one they had previously transacted with via Facebook, to collect the goods and the difference in price. The lower-value and lower-quality goods would be returned to the buyer via the account "Thanh Ngọc," while the suspect would keep the difference in price.

"Many people often inquire about buying goods from my Facebook account because, for the same clothing items, I usually advertise them on social media at a lower price than elsewhere. I often use multiple phone numbers to contact buyers and sellers. When customers complain about the quality of the goods or the price, I block their Facebook account and unsubscribe from their phone number," Nguyen Thi Ha confessed.

Using this method, the suspect conducted transactions with numerous victims in many provinces and cities across the country, with the estimated amount of money stolen reaching tens of millions of VND.

An investigator from the Criminal Police Department of Nghe An Provincial Police said that although they faced many difficulties in identifying the specific victims, the police force is quickly focusing on verifying other victims, contributing to further clarifying the actions of the suspect.

This incident serves as a warning to many people who are buying and selling goods on social media platforms. Despite the many conveniences, social media users need to be vigilant to recognize fraudulent activities and avoid losing money and suffering harm.
