The Tay Ninh native had a poor start in the first set, allowing Chandrasekar Anirudh to break his serve and take a 3/1 lead. Reasonable adjustments in his playing style helped Hoang Nam equalize 4/4 and then win 6/4.

In the second set, Hoang Nam started the game better, breaking serve and leading 3/1 against Chandrasekar Anirudh after an exciting score-struggle. Then, the number 1 Vietnamese player asserted his strength with tricky shots to score points, winning 6/2.

The victory after 1 hour and 45 minutes of competition brought Hoang Nam into the quarterfinals to meet tennis player Ito Yuichi (Japan, ATP rank 751). This 30-year-old tennis player, once ranked 325 ATP, will be a big challenge for Hoang Nam.

Interestingly, Ito Yuichi is the one who will compete with Hoang Nam in the men's doubles. Both were selected as the 4th seeds, qualified for the quarterfinals and are candidates for the championship title.
