US sends strategic bombers to conduct drills on the Korean peninsula

Two US Air Force B-1B strategic bombers were deployed to the Korean peninsula to conduct drills with South Korean military fighter jets.

NBC on July 8 quoted a statement from the US Pacific Command saying that two B-1B Lancers strategic bombers took off from a base on Guam island and flew to the Korean peninsula to practice precision attacks on South Korean military aircraft.

The exercise was held near the demilitarized zone (DMZ) separating South Korea and North Korea.

South Korea has deployed heavy F-15 and F-16 fighters to participate in joint exercises with the US.

According to the South Korean military, the exercise is the next “answer” to Pyongyang’s intercontinental ballistic missile test on July 4. According to North Korean Central Television, the missile flew 933km and reached an altitude of 2,802km, capable of reaching any target on Earth.

Previously, on July 5, the US and South Korean militaries also conducted a joint missile exercise, using ATACMS tactical surface-to-surface missiles and Hyunmoo-II ballistic missiles. The missiles were launched into South Korean territorial waters, along the East Coast.
