Rocker Nguyen: 'Minh Hang looks fragile, making me want to protect her'
The actor of "Beauty and the Beast" said that even though the singer was much older, he felt moved and wanted to protect her.
- How did you and Minh Hang get along in your first film together?
- On set, I lead Minh Hang's emotions, but in real life she is my senior - six years older than me. To keep the inspiration, we don't call each other "older sister, younger sister" but only call each other by name. Minh Hang's character is a big and fat girl, but in real life, the more she films, the thinner she gets, losing 5 kg because of the makeup. As for me, I gain weight steadily (laughs).

- Which scene was difficult for you?
- Our most memorable scene was when we kissed, which we had to do ten times. Sometimes, we worked until 3am and drank wine to get into the mood. I call it the "sleep-away kiss" because we were so tired after filming.
- Many artist couples get caught up in "fake love, real love", what about your case?
- Minh Hang in real life is innocent, childish, fragile and weak, which makes me always want to protect her. I was a little moved when acting with Minh Hang, but those were just the moments needed for the role. As for the future, I don't know anything because actors Song Joong Ki and Song Hye Kyo also became a couple from small feelings. If Minh Hang didn't mind that I was younger, I wouldn't care much about her age..The problem is whether we are destined to be together or not.

- What chance made you join "Beauty and the Beast"?
- The movie 200 Pounds Beauty - the original Korean version - made me cry a lot when I was a kid. When I participated in the casting, I had to compete with many "heavyweight" opponents, including Korean actors who could speak Vietnamese. The producer character in the movie looks like me, and also has the same passion for music and introverted personality. However, he is "older" than me, so sometimesI do not understandcharacter thinking
The role is suitable for me, but depending on the age of the audience, they will have different opinions. Older viewers will find my acting immature in some places. If there are criticisms, I consider them as constructive comments. I have to be more alert because my first role is like my first love, it is not everything and not everything I want will be as I wish. Receiving two-way opinions is a way to balance my thoughts and motivation to move forward.
Success or failure is not as important as how you perceive and deal with it. Opportunities and risks always go hand in hand. Once you have decided to pursue this career for a long time, you should think: "Even if there is no this film, there will be a successful next film."
- Recently, cosmetic surgery among artists has caused a stir and is also the subject of the movie "Beauty and the Beast". What is your opinion on this?
- Right from the moment I accepted the role in the film, I understood and supported the message of the work. At the present time, this message is normal because cosmetic surgery is no longer a big deal. I know the story of singer Duc Phuc and admire his determination.

Rocker Nguyen is passionate about both music and cinema. |
- You were given the title of "scandalous handsome man" because of incidents like putting your feet on the interview table with Korean singer Jessica, suspected of revealing "hot" photos. What do you think?
- I don't care about being noticed by scandals, because I don't intend to benefit from scandals. If the truth has been distorted, I don't care much because there are many other things to focus on, especially acting and music. An artist should be discussed for his artistic products. Titles are just descriptive and allusive phrases. To understand a person, you need to spend time observing that person over the years, not just looking at the title and hastily judging. Miley Cyrus is called a "bad girl", but for seven years she only loved one person, Liam Hemsworth (laughs).
- You graduated with a degree in Film Studies in Australia, and directed a music video, but until now you've only been noticed for side stories. What do you think?
- I still try to use the next products to prove myself. I like to work quietly with the motto: "Let the silence make the sound". I think the audience now is very smart, has its own taste and always demands certain things from artists, forcing artists to strive more. I have only been back in the country for a year and a half, so I need more time for people to accept me.
For me, art must be unique, artists need to have their own style. I don't dare to affirm that I am talented, but at least I believe that besides being handsome, I have a different artistic taste compared to current Vietnamese artists. I believe that entering showbiz is to work according to my passion, not to chase after money or fame.
- In the future, what areas will you focus on developing?
- For me, music and cinema are both great passions. As a singer, you have five minutes to explode in the music space, appear directly and bring the audience to emotional levels. Every gesture and action of yours affects the audience and receives immediate feedback.
With cinema, the actors' performances are longer, more elaborate and elaborate. I have the ambition to direct my own film in the future. Filmmaking is a long-term game. Right now I am still trying and learning.
